Thanks for volunteering! I'll let you know later which forum host you will be assisting. |
|
Aug-23-08 | | classF: <kutztown> I'll volunteer for temporary forum host. |
|
Aug-23-08
 | | kutztown46: <classF>
Thank you! |
|
Aug-24-08 | | hms123: <kutz> Don't worry about assigning extra forum ass'ts to me. I think I can handle most of it with "a little help from my friends" and to the extent that team members like <zanshin> <OD> and others continue to point people in my direction. Also, I expect to be active in helping <achieve> and <benjinathan> and will check in regularly with the forums of <zanshin> and <chessstoplay>. thanks--hms |

Actually, other than prior to 9/15 (during which time you will fill in for <achieve> if we need to start the forums that soon) I have you listed as an assistant yourself. I will put you with <achieve> since I know the two of you already have a good relationship. BTW, great job on greeting the newcomers! |
|
Aug-24-08 | | dotsamoht: I volunteer to be the final summarizer as long as you think I can do that as well as manage the Sticky. |
|
Aug-24-08
 | | kutztown46: <dotsamoht>
Thank you! I am inclined to agree.
<zanshin>, how much time is needed to update the sticky and place marker posts in the forums when there is a forum change? |
|
Aug-24-08 | | hms123: <kutz> thanks--hms |
|
Aug-24-08 | | zanshin: <dotsamoht> <kutz> For simple updates, maybe 5 - 10 minutes. More complicated ones can take 40 - 45 mins. This is after some practice. The only cautionary note here is that it's not really the time to update the sticky that counts. It's making yourself available to do so over the weeks and months of the game, including weekends. The update occurred at 12 pm EST - conveniently my lunchtime. Over weekends, I would sometimes ask <MAJ> on Sundays when I am in church with my family. So <dotsamoht>, the game schedule has to constantly be on your mind. We try to be consistent here, so the Team knows what to expect, and when. As soon as <CG> posts the move, <kutz> posts the forum assignments within minutes, and the forum markers need to be placed immediately after. (Btw, I'm not thrilled <CG> has moved the update times to 1 pm EST.) If you sign up for more tasks, just remember that you need to do them consistently. I know you said you liked doing tedious jobs, there are plenty of them here ;-) |
|
Aug-24-08 | | rebjorn: <kutztown46> I don't think I log in often enough to be a reliable FA. I might volunteer for the position on a move-by-move basis once the forums get going. |
|
Aug-25-08 | | crawfb5: I have the 52K games from the ICCF games archive in a database program I'm toying with that lets me generate statistics fairly easily. I thought I might try keeping a running set of statistics on our most popular candidate moves in my forum rather than posting on the main page. After all, when you have a new hammer, every problem looks like a nail. :-) |
|
Aug-25-08 | | ajile: Are the Temporary Analysis Forums going to be activated now or later after a few more moves? I'm ready to go with my forum. Also do we edit the Sticky or will this be done to assign variations? |
|
Aug-25-08
 | | kutztown46: <ajile>
My goal is to activate the temp. forums somewhere between moves 5 and 10. If there is widespread support from the team to start sooner, then I will do so. For now, just stand by. You will not need to update the sticky. <dotsamoht> will do that after I assign the forums on the main page after each move. |

Aug-25-08 | | Nightranger: < kutztown46 >
While I can't commit to any sizeable contribution at this time, (work has really picked up in the last 2 months,) I can offer the use of my forum for temporary use again, if needed. TTFN |

Aug-25-08 | | crawfb5: <kutztown46: <crawfb5> This is interesting data. I was thinking it might be easier to compare choices if you choose one rating criteria and then show the data for each opening in a single table. However, it is your data and you can decide how best to present it.> Well, it's a program I'm just starting to learn, and these are more or less the defaults. I'm sure I can tweak it some to cut it down. I suppose what's most useful depends on the kind of question you want to ask. For example, I found it interesting that the 2600+ ICCF crowd doesn't play the Scandinavian. :-) Maybe the better way to go is to just stick with the "both players over..." section. That would cut the post length in half and would de-emphasize unequal ratings to a certain extent. I'll give it some more thought and see what I can come up with. |

Thanks for the offer. If I think of something suitable, we will take advantage of it. For this game, we want our analysis forums to be actively managed, so we will not use your forum for that purpose this time. |
|
Aug-25-08 | | dotsamoht: <kutz><zanshin> Am I right that <kutz> has not posted temporary forums yet, as my e-mail from <zanshin> says you will directly after GMAN's move is played? I will go to <dalbertz>, <Red October>, <Karpova>, <mckmck>, <achieve>, <ajile>, <tweet77>, and <classF> to check, but I do not see a posting like the one <zanshin> gave me as an example from the GMT game. Are we not quite to the temporary forum assignment stage yet? Is the Sticky acceptable as it is? What do I need to do right now tonight? I notice somebody deleted the Semi-Slav links, which I was going to do. I need feedback here... |

Sorry for not being clear. The temporary (analysis) forums will start later, possibly between moves 5 and 10. Believe me, you will know when it is time for that. Here are some links that should be in the sticky now: Job Fair (kutztown46)
New Member Forum (hms123)
Computer Pool Form (Waitaka)
Engine Analysis Forum (chesstoplay)
Our Moves vs. Engine Recommendations (MostlyAverageJoe) Voting Statistician (Ron)
Openings Strategy (chancho)
The Opening Repertoire and Black Najdorf are OK. The <RandomVisitor> forum is not really active yet. |

 | | kutztown46: <dotsamoht>
I forgot one. Please also add:
CC Games Openings Statistics (crawfb5) |
|
Aug-25-08 | | whiteshark: <kutztown46>, for me the <Temporary Forum Assistants> is (a bit) too much formalised. I will join fora that I find interesting or fascinating etc. And time permitting I like to do it independently and on the spot. Maybe others think alike. Just my two cents :D |
|
Aug-26-08 | | Hootey: <kutztown46>
Since <Karpova> has taken leave, has anyone volunteered to do "The List"? If not, I'll step up and take care of it. Please let me know when you have the time. Thank you. |
|
Aug-26-08 | | Xenon Oxide: <kutztown> My premium membership will expire soon, so may I ask a favor: can I use your forum for communication regarding my job as a town crier? Thanks! Also, if for some reason I need to take a few days off the job, I will post in advance in your forum. Cheers. |
|
Aug-26-08 | | hms123: <kutz> my first satisfied customer!! This is fun.--hms <If not your forum, I think our questions would be lost among all that computer analysis on the game page. Keep up the good work > |
|
Aug-26-08
 | | kutztown46: <Hootey>
I am not aware of anyone else volunteering for "The List". Please proceed if you wish. You could use your own forum header to display the information and then periodically post on the main page. We could also link to your forum from the sticky.
BTW, I don't think <Karpova> has left - she has volunteered to be a forum host(ess). I guess she just did not want to do the list anymore. |
|
Aug-26-08
 | | kutztown46: <hms123>
I'm sure there are many satisfied customers. Keep up the good work. I think you have found your niche on the team! |
