Sep-12-09  WinKing: Hi <kutztown46>. I left a post to user <Fusilli> who is doing work on the migration of chess players to the U.S.A.. I told him I used to play against a player Dr. Milan Vukcevich. He was a GM of chess composition, an IM otb & a metallurgist. He emigrated to the U.S. in the 60's due to unrest in his then native Yugoslavia. He eventually settled near Cleveland, Ohio not to far from where I grew up in Cleveland Heights. <zanshin> reminded me that you are a metallurgist & thought you might be interested. Dr. Vukcevich was nominated for the Nobel Prize in the late 80's I believe. He was a very charismatic individual. I played against him 5 times in simultaneous exhibitions & got creamed in 3 of the five games but at least was not embarrassed in the other two. Anyhow here is a site that tells a little about him. I don't know if you are familiar with any of his published works in your field but I know he had a few.

He can also be found in Wikipedia.

Hope you find these articles of some interest to you. Look forward to playing with you in our next chessgames match. :)

Thanks for the info. I had never heard of him. It sounds like his doctorate was in metallurgy but he also had distinguished works in chemistry.

Yes, that is my dog. Actually, she is a shetland sheepdog (sheltie). Her name is Cleo, and she is a registered therapy dog.

I thought you wanted analysis on 10...Nh5 11. Rae1.

11. Rae1 does not even show up on Fritz's radar screen after 10...b5.

Open Defence: well both are needed actually.. 10...Nh5 looks like the human move that can activate Black's forces.. typical HEM stuff
Oct-03-09  WinKing: Hi <kutztown46>. I like the avatar of your dog over at Hiarcs - a real beauty. No doubt she is a 'crowd pleaser' when you take her on your therapy visits. I remembered that you had mentioned her in your 'Bio' here at chessgames and wondered if that was your dog. Then I saw in your forum that you had mentioned to <Open Defence> that it is your dog.

I really enjoy working with you guys again. Hope we can bring home a couple of victories. Well...at least one anyhow. :)

I have not been checking my forum here on a regular basis lately... Thanks for the compliment on our dog. She is absolutely a crowd pleaser.

It's good working with you again, also.
