NJ--no rating. Favorites, Morphy, Marshall, Anderssen. Played a lot as a teen, then let it go for 40 years. Trying to reconstitute myself as a chess player.

Meanwhile, let this forum serve as a refuge from wild-eyed loony leftism. Here there will be no admiration for Hugo Chavez, Castro, or any of the other tin-pot dictators admired by chess players from the safety of freedom-loving Western democracies. Here will be found a premise that most of the nations of the world today are governed by Godless fools. Ours, too, unfortunately.

I was also going to say some uncomplimentary things about Queen Pawn games, the Sicilian and the French Defenses, Semi-Slav games, and a few other chess matters. But as those are purely questions of personal taste, I have chosen to leave them alone.

Since setting up this forum, I have also had several novels published: "Bell Mountain," "The Cellar Beneath the Cellar," and "The Thunder King." For more information about them (and me), visit my website, http://leeduigon.com/

Update, much delayed: my fourth book, "The Last Banquet," came out last year, and my fifth, "The Fugitive Prince," I expect to be published sometime this Spring. For book covers and free sample chapters, visit my blog.

Update again: "The Fugitive Prince" is out now and the next project is "The Palace." Editing is well advanced, but we're still waiting for a cover.

Update: "The Palace" is in print now along with No. 7, "The Glass Bridge," with No. 8, "The Temple," waiting in the wings. The first seven are all available via amazon.com.

Update: No. 8, "The Temple," and No.9, "The Throne," are now in print, with No. 10, "The Silver Trumpet,"due for release any day now.

<Esteemed Colleagues> First they came for your Halloween costumes. Now they're coming for your pumpkins... because jack-o'-lanterns [trumpet fanfare] cause Global Warming!

Brothers and sisters:
I ask, then, has God rejected his people?
Of course not!
For I too am a child of Israel, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew.
Do you not know what the Scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

<Hence I ask, did they stumble so as to fall? Of course not!
But through their transgression
salvation has come to the Gentiles,
so as to make them jealous.
Now if their transgression is enrichment for the world, and if their diminished number is enrichment for the Gentiles, how much more their full number.>

I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you will not become wise in your own estimation: <<<a hardening has come upon Israel in part, until the full number of the Gentiles comes in,
and thus all Israel will be saved, as it is written:>

The deliverer will come out of Zion,
he will turn away godlessness from Jacob;
and this is my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.>

In respect to the Gospel, they are enemies on your account; but in respect to election,
they are beloved because of the patriarch.
For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.>

OhioChessFan: <The U.S. government on Monday found that a Chicago suburban high school district discriminated against a transgender student and gave the school a month to provide full access to girls' locker rooms or lose federal funding...The district says transgender students may use their gender-identified locker room if they change and shower privately. The government said a separate changing place was discriminatory because it subjected the student to stigma and different treatment.>

playground player: <Ohio Chess Fans> A few observations.

1. No one explains why it's necessary, wise, or just to allow a boy to use the girls' shower and locker room because he says he's a girl. It didn't used to get you anything, to say things that were flagrantly untrue or even delusional.

2. Remember when schools did not have to rely on millions of dollars of federal funding? Now they have to have it, and they won't get it unless they toe the line ideologically.

3. I couldn't help noticing that, on the same page as this news article, HuffPo has a link to some tripe about how to enjoy a "safe and proper threesome."

Can I please wake up now?

Nov-03-15  Big Pawn: The upcoming generation may be very conservative. There is something of a pendulum effect, a sort of reactionary backlash against the sex, drugs & rock n rollers. I see a lot of young guys up and arms about Islam and putting America first.

You guys have probably seen this too, but I see a lot of young guys driving around in the trucks or jeeps with not one, but two American flags flying on each side of the vehicle. Last time I saw this I realized that I never ever saw that when I was a kid. Now I see it often up here in the Massachusetts and New Hampshire area.

I think the new generation could have some surprises in store for the old hippies. Optimism, friends. Optimism.

  playground player: <Big Pawn> Gee, I hope you're right!

Western Europe by now has brought in enough Muslims that it may have entered a death spiral.

Here at home, our glorious progressive rulers seek to nail down their fundamental transformation of America by 1) replacing the electorate, largely through amnesty for illegal aliens, 2) breeding cultural chaos and confusion by redefining marriage, demanding recognition of "trans" loonies, and attacking the Christian religion, 3) by attacking the Constitution and the separation of powers by means of presidential executive orders, court rulings, and bureaucratic regulation.

This is a fight to the death, and the bad guys are winning.
