| | WannaBe: When I use IE, I do Alt-A and it would bring up a list of my favourites, (bookmarked pages). In Edge, you have to do 2 steps. Click on the 3 dashes (Upper right hand corner) and then select the page you have bookmarked. |

I am seeking someone to do a little experimental chess games. 1. Ideally, we will play 2 games, white/black. 48 hours per 2-ply.(explanation below) 2. If you have an open forum and would like to host the second game, we can play both games simultaneously. Else, second game will follow the end of the first game, here on my forum. 3. All 'normal' chess rules apply, <with one exception, a player must make two moves in succession.> Hence, as an example, 1. e4 d4 would be white's moves, and 2. c5 cxd4 would be black's moves. 4. If the first move of a sequence is a check, the game is <OVER>. e.g. 45. Bxg7+ or 46. Bxg2+ Let me know if you are interested, or have any questions! Thanks. |

| | WannaBe: Interesting. With Edge Browser, and multiple tabs opened, and you close the browser (upper right hand corner 'X'), it will ask you close this current tab, or all. If the Edge Browser is minimized to the task bar, and you click the big 'X', it does not ask and will close app along with any opened tabs. |

| | WannaBe: Innnnner'esting. With IE 11 and Win10, if you have multiple tabs, and you click close, it asks you if you want to close all tabs. (Same as Edge) If IE is minimized to the task bar, and you put the mouse over IE, mini-windows showing you each tab appears. So you <CAN'T> close all tabs, you can close them one by one when IE's minimized. |

 | | offramp: I'll tell you what, I do not like Win 10, but it's a massive massive massive improvement over 8 and 8.1. It's incredible how M$ totally and UTTERLY lost the plot. Can you remember its rival to the iPod nano? Nor can I! The BBC is really good. It had no advertising so it can iv CEOs and criticise their companies like MAD magazine. A guy from the Beeb interviewed the new, thank God Asian type guy whose M$'s current frontman. Of course, the whole Beeb crew had iPhones/itablets. The Beeb guy told the Asian guy, "no one actually wants ms, it's just forced upon us." Right on, dude! |

What I mean is a situation where a player (say White) gives check on his second move (not the first). In that situation, does Black have to get out of check on his first move, or is it enough if he does so on his second move? Take this position, for instance:
click for larger viewWhite has just used his second move to play Rc8+. The laws of normal chess would suggest Black has to make a king move here. But an alternative rule interpretation would be that Black just has to get out of check before it's White's turn again; which means he can play 1...Qe6 followed by Qxc8 (eliminating the check on his second move), or even 1...Qxe1+ winning outright. (This follows a "whoever captures the other guy's king first wins" logic, as normal chess does.) I assume reading 1 (Black has to use his first move to eliminate the check) is the correct one, but I wanted to be sure, because it has a huge effect on play. (If reading 2 is the correct one, I'm not sure I want to open with 1.d4 e4.) |

| | SwitchingQuylthulg: <WannaBe> I think reading 1 (Black has to eliminate the check on his first move) is better, mainly because reading 2 would allow some very bizarre situations and create more conflicts with the strict rules of normal chess. (In particular, if reading 2 is taken to its logical extreme, it would be possible for a king to move <into> a check, allowing one king to capture another king or castle into a check on move one and get out again on move two. The latter would be particularly bizarre since even castling <across> a check is illegal. Even if it were ruled that kings still can't ever touch each other, and castling across or into or from a check is still not allowed, other bizarre things could happen; it could still be a fun game, but less chess-like.) Another thing I'd like clarified is the stalemate rule: is it a stalemate if a player can't make a legal second move, or only if a player can't make a legal move at all? Take this position, for instance:

Yes, in your diagram, if Ka1 game is 1/2-1/2. This would make it a little 'challenging' or more thinking required for black to avoid such a situation. Since black have such superior piece, anything (else) but the move played would result a win. |

Browser was minimized to my task bar, and I only had my email (Outlook) on screen. Go get a cup of coffee, everything on Edge got reset. I got signed out of yahoo, chessgames page went back a page (like I clicked on the <- arrow). Freakin' strange!! |

| | SwitchingQuylthulg: Final (?) question: how does en passant work? I'd assume an en passant capture is only legal on the immediately following ply; that is, if White here plays 1.e4 g4, Black's first move can be ...fxg3 but not ...fxe3, and Black's second move can't be an en passant capture.
