Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-23-03  Helloween: The attack here is amazing, considering White's Rook deficit. 37.gxh6!! is a wonderful intermezzo that Black probably didn't see coming.
Oct-23-03  Helloween: 37...Rf7! seems to win easily for Black. 37...gxh6?? was a terrible blunder and Keres got the swindle. I wonder why he didn't just play 38.Rh7+ followed by 39.Qe6+. This combination seems too obvious, and it's very surprising that Black didn't calculate this before choosing the ridiculous 37...gxh6??.
Oct-23-03  SEVEN: If 37.... BxQ then 38. hxg7+ Kg8 39. Bh7+ KxB 40. gf8=Q+ QxR (41..... Kh6 42.Qf6+ Kh5 43.Qg5#)41. QxQ+ and 42. QxB. Just magnificent

Honza Cervenka: After 37...Rf7 white's attack seems to fail.
Oct-23-03  Helloween: By the way, the opening position in this game, 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.d4 exd4 5.Nd5!?, appears to have been played less than a dozen recorded times in history. The gambit is a English opening version of the Begrade Gambit. As with the Belgrade, Black should get a very good game with 5...Nb4, maybe slightly better in this transmutation.
Oct-14-04  Marius: <SEVEN> I think you're wrong with the line 41... Kh6 is not possible 40... Kg6 41.Re6+ Kh5 42.Qf5+ Kxh4 43. Re4+ Bg4 44. Qxg4 #
