Oct-19-12  twinlark: Hard to see how a correspondence game from this era could be so short, with such obvious mistakes.

  SwitchingQuylthulg: <twinlark> Try D Tobor vs W Stamer, 1984 ;-)
Oct-20-12  twinlark: That's impressive. A bit like aiming for the side of the barn from a range of 6 inches and accidentally shooting oneself in the head.

perfidious: <Mates> Then there's the old standby that friend Tony Albano used to catch out an unwary opponent.

After Tony opened 1.d4, he received the response 1....g6, with the conditional move '2.any Bg7'. The next-and final-postcard went 2.Bh6 1-0.

Oct-20-12  twinlark: Heh, I saw that. Amazing. All the time in the world doesn't mean much to some...
Oct-21-12  brankat: <SwitchingQuylthulg> Was that actually a corr. game?

<perfidious> That's a great story!

That can work in postal and 1-minute games, but very seldom anything in between :)

<brankat> Well, it's hard to see how something like that could happen in an over-the-board game :)

Actually, that doesn't sound entirely far-fetched. One need merely imagine an unlucky ricochet.

louispaulsen88888888: That trick resurfaces now online. On ICC, one can play a “pre move”. If I see someone is doing that, evident by an almost instant response , I play my Premove Gambit. I have had numerous games that went 1.Nf3 d5 2. g3 Bh3 3. Bg2 Bxg2. 0-1. It could backfire ,obviously, but so far I have a perfect score with it. About 10 games. Sometimes the moves are slightly different, but with the same tactic.
