perfidious: This game was annotated by George Botterill in his book Open Gambits in the mid 1980s.

White has an extra pawn in this middlegame, but it is doubled and weak, while Black's pieces are better placed. With ....Rc5 imminent, Nunn returned the pawn straight away, but remained with an inferior bishop and pawn weaknesses.

Even after 26.Rd1 Qe6, Black would have stood well, but Nunn mistakenly went for activity and wound up in a heavy-piece ending which was clearly worse for him, though it required some fine technique by Huebner to seal the win.

Dec-29-13  Poisonpawns: Did Huebner miss the chance to win the Queen by 17..Rfb8? or did he reject the line due to some compensation for White? after 17..Rfb8 18.Qxc7 Rc8 19.Qb7 Rab8

With two possiblities: 20.Bxa6 and 20. Qxa6
After 20.Qxa6 Rc6 white loses the queen also.

perfidious: Botterill referred to the heavy-piece endgame as (paraphrasing) 'the tournament player's nightmare: clearly lost, but not resignable'.
