Benzol: I find it difficult to believe that Tal could be routed like this.

Benzol: Suggestion for a pun "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".

GrahamClayton: I believe that this could be Tal's only loss of his 8 board telex simultaneous exhibition against an Australian team in 1974. He finished with a record of +4, =3, -1.

Could the citation of the game be changed to match the other telex games in the database?

An Englishman: Good Evening: The funny thing about defenses that hang by a thread is that such thread can be pretty strong; the only reason Black survives Tal's attack is that Bxh6 is always met with ...Qh3+ forking King and Bishop. For example, 25.Bxh6,Qg3+; 26.K-any,Qxh3+. At the end, if 30.Rh2(finally threatening Bxh6),Qf5+ forces the exchange of Queens.

FSR: Congrats to <Benzol> for the pun!
Oct-21-12  brankat: After the last move <30...Rc5> the annotation says "Adjudicated."!

Can't believe Tal didn't resign in this position!

Oct-21-12  Abdel Irada: Positively 'pataphysical.

Oct-21-12  newzild: <Benzol> and <FSR> There is no pun in the title.

Benzol: <newzild> Do you know the song? Tal was like a "Maxwell" victum in this game.
Oct-21-12  Abdel Irada: <newzild>: That is technically correct, but I believe it's pragmatically wrong.

The game title is a wordplay on a Beatles song title and the winner's name, and as such it will very probably be accepted according to the broad colloquial usage.

Oct-21-12  Fanques Fair: Why did Tal resign ?
Oct-21-12  claia: <An Englishman: ... At the end, if 30.Rh2(finally threatening Bxh6),Qf5+ forces the exchange of Queens.>

30...Tf5+ wining the Queen would be better.

Oct-21-12  claia: <Fanques Fair: Why did Tal resign ?>

Besides the material difference and white King exposure, there is little to do against the threat of 30...Th5 followed by Th1.

Oct-21-12  The Last Straw: Black swings a sudden attack at move 25. Amazing! What happened to Tal?
Oct-21-12  Caissanist: I believe User: claia means 30..Rh5 (Th5 is the Spanish/Portuguese/Italian equivalent).

perfidious: <Caissanist> In German (Turm) as well.
Oct-21-12  tivrfoa: Why white didn't continue, like playing 31. Qf4? :(
Where's the threat?
Oct-22-12  newzild: <Benzol> and <Abdel Irada> Yes I am familiar with the song but the title of this game is not a pun, notwithstanding the fact that Tal is a victim of Maxwell in this instance.
Oct-22-12  kevin86: a referree decided this one! after further review...
Nov-15-12  The Last Straw: Analysis for the position arising after 30...♖xc3 31.bxc3 ♕d1+ 32.♔g2 ♕xc1?
Feb-10-15  optimal play: Board 3 (out of 8) played by telex between Moscow & Adelaide on 14th May 1974

<<Fuller's game was a triumph for him. Early on, he appeared to be on the verge of being overrun by a steamroller of pawns but defended calmly and finished the game strongly after Tal chose a risky exchange of Rook for two minor pieces on move 23. Here the game was adjourned. Black has a mating threat by Rook to h5 and h1>
