perfidious: Cover the players' names, then guess who is the former and future candidate and which player, the outsider.

This severe defeat put paid to Huebner's chances of qualifying for the Candidates matches.

Nov-07-18  Granny O Doul: Don't remember who wrote Huebner's entry in Golombek's chess encyclopedia (published in 1977), but I remember the comment that "Huebner is an unusually conscientious player whose career is entirely free of surprise defeats by tail-enders". This game does not disprove it, as Estevez did finish ahead of one player (granted, by three points). Anyway, probably no less conscientious, though a defeat, than a couple of drawn games against Rogoff and Miles.
Nov-24-20  Messiah: OK I cannot get the pun, still, it can be a good pun.
Nov-24-20  siggemannen: I'm guessing it's something in the way of "the beatings will continue until moral(es) improves". But these days, you can never tell for sure
Nov-24-20  Brenin: Morales finished last but one in this Interzonal; however, Tal was among those he beat, the best scalp of his short career.

For the sake of heredity I feel compelled to make a correction to your elucidatory post. In fact it's something in the way of "the beatings will continue until morale(s) improves".

Now I can return to the pit from which I was summoned.

MissScarlett: Strange but true, on the front page, <Huebner> is rendered as <Heubner>.
