Mar-26-04  ruylopez900: Is the ECO really that of the Ruy Lopez?? It doesn't make sense to me, I thought that ECO C63 had to start at least e4 e5, nf3 nc6, bb5. I would call this Uncommon King Pawn Opening, even though it does reach the position of the Schliemann (though with colours reversed.)

  Sneaky: Why?

If you were playing this game in a postal tournament, you would want which book: (a) Uncommon King Pawn Openings (b) The Ruy Lopez, Schliemann Defense ?

Mar-26-04  ruylopez900: I would want the Ruy Lopez obviously, but I didn't think the ECO worked like that!
Dec-03-04  InspiredByMorphy: Does anybody but me find 2.e4 very strange ?
Dec-28-04  buscher07: Yes. Why did White do that?
Jul-09-05  kingpretender1: the idea of playing a color reversed opening is not at all wrong, but very interesting; although, in this case, it seems trully strange that white intends to play the Schlieman of the Ruy Lopez reversed, an opening considered the reversed of the King's Gambit! So, finnaly, white chooses to play king's gambit with a tempo lost!!! but, as I sad, that's only strange, not also wrong.
Jan-10-06  cuendillar: <Why 2.e4?> Maybe he picked up a book on the Schliemann on a sale and wanted to give it a try.

Honza Cervenka: <Does anybody but me find 2.e4 very strange ?> Some like it hot and some like it black.:-)
Mar-19-08  Sleeping kitten: White may have thought that the position after 1.e4 e5 is a reciprocal zugzwang...

So he move-ordered Black by the subtle 1.e3! e5? 2.e4!!
