Jul-06-14  morfishine: "Adnoy taken out"
Jul-26-14  morfishine: When someone has their tonsils removed, usually the adnoids are also taken out
Feb-22-16  morfishine: You see, adnoid(s) rhymes with Adnoy, or almost rhymes, and the term 'taken out' carries a double-meaning to remove and to defeat somebody. Get it?

Anybody out there?

Feb-22-16  frogbert: <morfishine> There's a couple of reasons that your pun might not work too well. Hallvard's last name is spelt with two norwegian/scandinavian letters. The correct spelling is this:

Ådnøy.

The first part of this name "Åd" is pronounced like "odd". The last part includes a diphthong "øy" that doesn't exist in the english language.

In short, "Ådnøy" pretty much doesn't rhyme with adnoid(s) at all.

OhioChessFan: Whereas I like "Adnoy Taken Out". In any event, it's so nice to see you off the belligerent anti-pun crusade.
Feb-22-16  morfishine: Thanks <frogbert> If I had known that, I would've never submitted it since I was relying on the rhyme. Thats strange though since we can find and post in various languages & symbols but <CG> doesn't make the effort for detail in the actual players name

<OhioChessFan> Belligerent is a bit strong don't you think?

Gotta admit <CG> has a nice run going with game quality for <GOTD> which is really all that matters

Nah, it's not really an issue with chessgames.com. Ceegee follows FIDE's spelling of player names, and FIDE has chosen to stick with a plain 26-letter latin/english alphabet, without diacritics of any kind. Hence, I think it makes sense for chessgames.com to follow the "standard" naming convention for players. It makes it easier to search across chess databases when they conform to the same spelling.

No, I think it's understating stuff like this:

< <OhioChessFan> Look Dude, besides the fact that this is none of your effen business, you obviously have overlooked that I was complimenting <thegoodanarchist>. Going forward, you have three options: (1) Keep your fat mouth shut (2) Put me on ignore (3) both 1 & 2 I'll repeat this since your thick skull requires it: Going forward, you have three options: (1) Keep your fat mouth shut (2) Put me on ignore (3) both 1 & 2

Really
