Oct-06-04  who: Maurian won!!! and with only knight odds.
Jan-09-05  TheEyeOfMordor: I think that Morphy managed to outplay his opponent but then made several mistakes. I think Morphy should be better, maybe even winning if he exchanges Rooks on the 24th move instead of 24.c7?. Later he refuses the perpetual and makes an unsound Rook sacrifice 31.Rxe4?,which loses the game since that paves the way for 35..Rxc7! which turns the game into a winning pawn endgame since Maurians f-pawn is passed.
Jan-09-05  bishopmate: Morphy's probably the only player ever to play almost all his games with odds, and win 95% of them, its unbelievable--some of his plays still make me shiver after seeing them 4-5 times.
Jan-26-09  WhiteRook48: Morphy always tends to do that.

jnpope: The London <Era>, 1864.11.27, p14, gives "played several years ago" and ends at 42...f2 "and after a few more moves White resigned", and cites the <Philadelphia War Press> as it's source for the game.

<Paul Morphy>, Maroczy, Leipzig 1909, pp98-99, gives "New Orleans, 1858" and extends the game with 43.b7 f1=Q 44.b8=Q Qa1+ "and wins."

jnpope: <Hazeltine Scrapbook>, v71, pdf pp93-94 (Forney's War Press, 1864.10.26), just gives "Chess in New Orleans" with no mention of when it was played, just that the game was hitherto unpublished, so perhaps <Forney's War Press> is the earliest source for this game.
