Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-29-03  patzer2: With 45...g5? Topalov's attempt to simplify to a draw for black backfires as Anand sees deeper into the position for a won white ending.

In the final position, after 55. h6 black is lost.

Nov-29-03  technical draw: I think you mean 55.a6.
Nov-29-03  Kaspablanca: Anand put black in an zuzwang position.
Nov-30-03  patzer2: patzer2: <technical draw> Thanks for the correction. I did mean 55. a6 as 55...Bc8 55. a7 Bb7 56. Bxf5 Ba8 57. Bc8 Ke7 58. Ke5 Kd8 59. Ba6 Kc7 60. Ke6 Bb7 61. Bxb7 Kxb7 62. a8Q Kxa8 63. Kd6 Kb7 64. Kd7 appears to be the correct sequence to simplify to a won pawn ending for white.
Nov-30-03  chesscem: Excellent use of Queen's Bishop!
Nov-30-03  PinkPanther: <With 45...g5? Topalov's attempt to simplify to a draw for black backfires as Anand sees deeper into the position for a won white ending. In the final position, after 55. h6 black is lost.>

Don't you mean Mamedyarov?

Dec-01-03  patzer2: <PinkPanther> I did mean Mamedyarov. I had been on the road driving a long time after visiting with relatives over the holiday and made the comment while I was exhausted and tired. Appreciate the correction.
Dec-29-03  talchess2003: after 50. Rb7+ if black replies 50...Rf7 then white has a won ending after 51. Bxf5+ Kxh6 52. Rxf7 Bxf7 53. Bd7 where it is funny because black can make no progress all of white's pawns are on dark squares and black's king is stranded all the way on the wrong side of the board.
