Dec-31-11  ughaibu: Karpova: This game might suit your collection.
Sep-23-15  Mr. V: Endgame experts, why is this a draw? What are the plans in this situation for each player?
Sep-23-15  thomastonk: <Mr. V:> It is Black who has to be a little bit careful, because ♘+♙ are no full equivalent for the ♖. There are however several things that simplify his task.

- everything happens on one side of the board
- no passed pawns
- the pawn chains are already fixed
- the pawn f7 is Black's only weakness
- White's g-pawn is weak, too
- the knight cannot be hunted
- further pawn exchanges are no problem for Black, because even ♔+♖ v ♔+♘ is drawn.

This is somehow an ideal scenario for the defending side, and so it is no surprise that White did not try anything.

Oct-02-15  Mr. V: <thomastonk>
Ah, thank you. I have never studied this endgame. Looks very relevant, though! I'll give it more thought for my own learning.

By the way, I saw your post on the Breyer-Tarrasch game. Thanks for that. I like your analysis. Your posts are very helpful to a beginner like me.
