Jul-11-05  InspiredByMorphy: <tpstar> Great game! Your play slowly builds pressure on blacks position until it cracks. Heres what I would have played differently as black. I wouldn't have traded off the bishop so soon and made more use of the e-file. 21. ...Re4 22.c3 Bxd4 23.Raxd4 Rde8 24.Be3 Rxd4 25.Bxd4 f6 where the position remains equal. In the game 28. ...Rb5 seemed like blacks only hope but after 29.Rxb5 cxb5 (or ...axb5) white has a strong protected passed pawn which the black king has to block (preventing the king from advancing in the endgame.) Once white got 30.Rb6 in, black never recovered. An instructive game!

tpstar: <InspiredByMorphy> I enjoy playing against these IQP French endings, since it often falls, so the early Queen exchange was fine by me. Now Fritz loves Bishops over Knights, therefore he didn't like 9. h3 & 10. g4 but he did like 11. Ne5 & 12. Nxg6. By the same token, Fritz favored Black after 16. Bxc6. I never considered 28 ... Rb5!? which works great for Black, also he had more play than I expected with the passed d Pawn. The R&P endgame was a useful exercise, although I missed the sure win with 46. g6! because I was so focused on the Rf6/Pg6/Pf2 set-up. Thanks for reviewing my game. You should visit QueenAlice sometime! =)
Jul-11-05  fgh: What the hell is this? A lot of chances for both sides, and they agree a draw? Tsk tsk.
