Phony Benoni: <jerseybob> I'd be willing to bet that White's 45th is a typo for 45.Bb2, especially in light of his next couple of moves. However, Spence's tournament book has 45.Bd2, so we can't be sure. The time control would have been at move 50, if that could have been a factor.

By the way, White is Eugene Meyer.

May-10-10  jerseybob: If white's 45th actually was Bd2 as written, then time control might be the answer. Larsen on move 44 dodged a trap; he might've feared there were more and wanted time to think. This was the post-Denver Massacre Larsen too.

Phony Benoni: <jerseybob> The play around moves 45-50, with its repetitions, shows a couple of players concerned with making the time control. And Larsen wasn't in his best form at Atlantic City.. But I still find it hard to believe that 45.Bb2 wasn't the actual move. However, I hesitate to submit correction slips on a hunch.

Probably the only person who would possibly know is Meyer.
