Feb-18-05  TedBundy: I submit this game as a candidate for "Most Wimpish-Collusion Game" for the month of February 2005. Respect for opponent, tournament strategy and even good reputations aside, this is truly a disgraceful example of fighting spirit. I wonder if they played tennis together afterwards.
Feb-18-05  fluidfive: no kidding, what kinda lame crap is this
Feb-18-05  dragon40: Yes, this is definitely a drastic example of the "Kramnik Complex" as I call it...Totally unambitious chess just becasue of laziness, apathy, or wanting to go to the bar and grab a drink together instead of at least making an honest attempt to make it a game in say 20 moves!
Feb-18-05  Morphy Fan: I have heard the name drawolinsky before.

  offramp: Yawnolinsky.
Feb-19-05  azaris: Blah blah blah. What is Black's best move after 6. Nh4?
Feb-19-05  ChessMan94: <azaris>

I think Black's best move is what was played: 6.. Bc8. Now, the question is, does 7. Nf3 is White's best move? I don't think so. White could have played 7. e4 or 7. h3 or 7. Bg5. So many options but instead he went for the lame and lazy 7. Nf3.

Feb-20-05  GazoGypsy: Yermolinsky is one of the best QGD GMs out there. He is a very methodical position player, from what I understand Beliavsky is too. By the repeated ♗ and ♘ moves I would say that after 5 a4 there were only two "good" lines left. Neither player was willing to concede. 6. Ne5 Na6 7. e3 e6 8. Bxc4 Nb4 9. O-O Be7 10. Qe2 not so good for white. 6. e3 e6 Almost always leads to a draw. espcially with GM's 5. ... Na6 6. e4 Bg4 7. Bxc4 Bxf3 8. gxf3 e6 9. Be3 Is a big ? I would say it was black not white who was not willing to play. The other options for black after 5. a4 are better than whites options if he concedes the ♗f5 move.
Feb-20-05  acirce: This is a draw line that is handy to know about and has been played many times. Of course it is easy to deviate. If White doesn't want to repeat there is 7.e3 e5 8.Bxc4 exd4 9.exd4 Be7 10.0-0 with a rather typical IQP position, or after 7.Nf3 Bf5 he can of course go for the main lines with 6.e3 and 6.Ne5, provided Black repeats ..Bf5 and doesn't go for 7..Na6 or 7..Bg4... Black also has 6..e6 7.Nxf5 exf5 8.e3 Bb4 or 8..Bd6.

  tpstar: Or else 9 ... Kd7!?
Feb-20-05  aw1988: <tpstar> Well, Kd7 is er- INTERESTING- I guess...

Beware of the secret grandmasters.

Nov-08-05  suenteus po 147: <aw1988> That's a neat little bug in the opening explorer. I shudder to think how far you could go if there wasn't the twenty move cap.
