At the Hampstead Chess Club Dr. Lasker gave a very fine simultaneous exhibition, engaging the members at twenty boards, at eight of which there were two or more consultants.< Of the twenty games, Lasker won fifteen, drew four, and lost one, his only successful opponent being Mr D. Mackay.> Dr. Lasker then lectured on the Queen's Gambit, illustrating his remarks with well-known examples, and showing the pitfalls known and unknown. He brought the interesting lecture to a close by playing over again the game which he played with Marshall in the recent contest for the Championship of the World (Queen's Gambit declined) and showing the reason for every move. At the close of the demonstration Dr. Lasker was loudly applauded for both his display and his lecture.

MissScarlett: Wonder if Lasker had a flashback to C A Lawrence vs C Curt, 1907 after 13...Rxc3.

Yes, it's a mix-up with Lasker's simul in Rotterdam on May 11th that year.

<< Of the twenty games, Lasker won fifteen, drew four, and lost one, his only successful opponent being Mr D. Mackay.>>

<Whyld (1998)> has +15 =5 -1 (hence the <Simul, 21b>). Such minor discrepancies are commonplace, of course. Sometimes they have a explanation beyond mere human error - e.g., somebody loses quickly and is allowed another turn.

Jul-05-19  ewan14: Donald MacKay suspisciously Scottish name
