Mar-07-06  midknightblue: this game is kib worthy
Mar-07-06  Jim Bartle: Is that related in any way to "sponge-worthy"?
Mar-07-06  Jim Bartle: Plagiarism 101 (tpstar's analysis on the US Championship page):

Shulman-Shabalov after 41. Rfe3:

41 ... Rxh6 42. Rxe5+ Qxe5 (42 ... Kf7 43. Qxd7+; 42 ... Kd6 43. Qxc5#) 43. Rxe5+ Kxe5 44. Qxd7:

Now the top priority for White is the Pg3 = 44 ... Rd6 45. Qe7+ Be6 (45 ... Re6? 46. Qxc5+) 46. Bxb7 and now 46 ... f4 loses to 47. Qg7+ Kf5 48. Qg4+ Kf6 49. Qxf4+ & 50. Qxg3 and the pressure's off.

Mar-07-06  chesstoplay: Shulman is all alone at 5.5 out of 6 and is really at the top of his game after the world championship cycle effort where he was a giant killer knocking out Kalifman. Yury is kib worthy!
Mar-07-06  chesstoplay: OOps, way too excited for Shulman, correction 4.5 out of 5... sorry all for my typo.

tpstar: <Jim Bartle> Thank you for recopying it. Remember analysis could always be incorrect, so please review it for improvements or holes. Also, if you directly quote the author, that isn't plagiarism. =)

No disrespect intended, but I wouldn't have blamed Black for playing on a tad further, as long as White's weak back rank persisted where a Rook check might win the Bg2.
