May-08-06  jperr75108: Interesting choice of opening from Carlsen.
May-09-06  Idling: why is carlsen having so many draws this time? is nisipanue a countryman of his?
May-09-06  virginmind: no, he is not! he is from romania. good luck in this tournament, nisipeanu!
May-09-06  notyetagm: <Idling: why is carlsen having so many draws this time?>

Because it is very difficult to beat strong players, that's why. Players like these are not going to miss his tactical ideas/tricks.

Magnus is not playing 2300s/2400s that he can mate in under 40 moves. Strong near-2700 players like Nisipeanu and Malakhov are <very> hard to beat.

Topalov's +2 =2 -0 match win over Nisipeanu, +6 San Luis, and +5 Corus make it look easy but it is really very difficult.

May-10-06  AdrianP: ...maybe even a pre-arranged draw?
May-10-06  suenteus po 147: <notyetagm> Very good point about the difficulty of facing equal or greater opposition. Topalov and the other top 2700s do make it look easy, but they are the best of the best. They're the top for THAT reason.
