Kibitzer's Corner
May-22-07  percyblakeney: Predojevic comes up with a string of very strong moves starting with 21. d4. Before playing 24. Ngf5 he was down to 5 minutes for 17 moves, but it was enough.
May-22-07  euripides: Short sets his opponent a test on K+P endings on move 49. If 49.Rxe6, Black sits tight with his king in the corner. White can play h5 and g6 but then h6 gives Black a fortress; even if White has the opposition Black then puts his king on h7 and White's Kf7 will be stalemate.

Sam Chapin: Why not 26.Bxc5 ?
May-23-07  xenophon: i find this odd-short won the EU championship by winning on the white side of the two knights-and the notes he gave to the game in NIC suggest he didn't believe black is sound-so why did he play it-did he underestimate his opponent?
May-23-07  Bears092: The position after 11. Nd8 is wonderful.
May-23-07  asmama: sweet !
May-24-07  solstys: <Sam Chapin> It seems like 26. Bxc5 is a stronger move. I'm not sure why Predojevic didn't play it.
May-24-07  IMDONE4: <Bears092: The position after 11. Nd8 is wonderful> ...why?

grasser: Yes. 26.Bxc5 leaves White up a Queen for two pieces, rather than just an exchange up.
Jan-21-08  areknames: Can't understand why 26.Bxc5 wasn't played either, looks pretty straightforward to me. Black's pieces will be fairly active, but a Queen is a Queen.
