kellmano: Surely the obvious 52. Qxg6 was a a better attempt.

kellmano: By obvious, I meant obvious to a patzer. Obviously ....
Jun-15-07  kingsindian2006: most of gelfand's points in the candidates are with black which fits his style.
Jun-21-07  LIFE Master AJ: A great game by Gelfand. (It shows defense does win chess games!)

Jun-21-07  sanyas: At what point did White "overplay his hand"?
Jul-23-07  Tamerlan: Instead of g5, wich is a mistake, white should play f4, then Re6 and Kg2.
Jul-23-07  Tamerlan: Jun-04-07 kellmano: If Qxg6, black would play Ng7 and the rook would attack the f2 pawn.

Domdaniel: Resigning is so *normal* ... why not dredge up the last of your creative juices and construct a helpmate?

53.Kh1 Ng3+ 54.fxg3 (otherwise 54...Qxf2#) Rf1+ 55.Kg2 Qf2# would do nicely.

If you get lucky you might even annoy your opponent.
