Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-20-08  EXIDE: 26. Bb5 traps the N. Very clever. Rapid chess is more entertaining than regular games for an amature like me.
Mar-21-08  HolyKnight: I don't understand why Moro did not get rid of the white bishop when he could. White is going to have a hard time getting full point after that.

I second that after 19...Nbxd3 20.cxd3 a5 Black looks good as White can not take the pawn and Black may play ...a4 and ...Ba6 later on.

Mar-23-08  LivBlockade: <after 19...Nbxd3 20.cxd3 a5 Black looks good as White can not take the pawn> Is there something wrong with 21. Rxa5?
Mar-23-08  Hesam7: <LivBlockade> Sorry I thought that after 19...Nbxd3 20.cxd3 a5 21.Rxa5 Black can play 21...Nb3+.

Position after 26 ♗a6-b5!

Anand's 26 ♗a6-b5! simply wins the <OFFSIDE> and <LOOSE> Black b5-knight by <BLOCKING> the line of life-giving force from the Black c8-rook.

26 ♗a6-b5! is a <LINE-CLOSING> tactic and not <INTERFERENCE> because the bishop move is -not- a <DOUBLE THREAT>: it simply creates a single threat 27 ♖b3x♘b4 that Black cannot meet, mainly because the Black b4-knight has <NO RETREAT>.

Aug-09-10  WhiteRook48: should have retreated his knight back to c6 and hoped for a trade
Jan-27-11  rjsolcruz: In Magdalaga vs Sol Cruz, UST Kiddies 2011 in MERALCO,Pasig City, White played the rare 5. Bxf6.
Aug-25-11  Thumbtack2007: I agree with <HolyKnight>. Why did black fail to play Nbxd3 when he had the chance? It seems like such an obvious move, especially when you have to move quickly.
