Aug-25-08 | | Marmot PFL: Black always has reasonable play for the weak a and c pawns. Why he gave up the important e pawn, and then didn't play Bg7 to get c3 probably only Morozevich can say. 32...Rxc3 loses to Qe5+ but a beginner would see that. the rest is just good technique for Ivanchuk. |

Aug-25-08 | | vanytchouck: When will we have the proper sheet of the game ?
I mean from the 34th to the the 38th move it's just insane ... |
Aug-25-08 | | Marmot PFL: <from the 34th to the the 38th move it's just insane ...> By then Moro probably knew it was lost and didn't put up the best resistance. But I doubt it would matter. |
Aug-25-08 | | parmetd: why not Qxc1? |
Aug-25-08 | | yalie: i think the actual moves probably were
34. Qxc5 Qxc1+ 35. Bf1 Qe1 |
Aug-25-08 | | zoren: probably an input error |
Aug-25-08 | | Marmot PFL: I guess this is messed up...white must have taken the black rook first. |
Aug-25-08
 | | keypusher: At the end, White wins after 60....Kxf5 61. Kd6 Kf6 62. Kd5 Kf5 63. Kd4 Kf6 (alas, ...Kf4 is illegal) 64. Ke4 Kg5 65. Ke5 and the pawn falls. Thanks to Peligroso Patzer, acirce and tamar for pointing this out on the tournament page. |

 | | Jimfromprovidence: 38 c5?, instead of Qa7+, also makes no sense. |
Aug-25-08 | | vanytchouck: <Jimfromprovidence: 38 c5?, instead of Qa7+, also makes no sense.> Yes, it's why i said from the 34th to the 38th move (Qa7 + could be played since the 35th move). I know that mutal blindness does exist but i just can't believe that two +2780 elo rated players can miss winning moves hardly worth a monday puzzle. |
Aug-25-08 | | maelith: Ivanchuk is one of the best ever, he is not a top 5 player for 15 years for nothing |
Aug-25-08 | | Aspirador: Note that 36.Qa7+ and 37.Qa7+ do not win the bishop because of ...Bf7. 38.Qa7+ would win the bishop because the pawn c4 blocks the diagonal. Maybe they really missed this in time trouble. As for 34...Qc1, this must be an error in the score as yalie said. |

Sure, he can play it after move 35, but he can’t win material until he plays c4 first. |
Aug-25-08 | | Aspirador: Watch http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/eet... They were absolutely blitzing during moves 30-40. Not that surprising if Ivanchuk missed 38.Qa7+. As said before, I don't think he could have missed 35.Qxc1 though, this is probably an error. |

Aug-25-08 | | vanytchouck: Aspirador & Jimfromprovidence >
You're right : Qa7 + doesn't work as long as Bf7 can be played. |

Aug-25-08 | | whiteshark: So it was mutual hecticness. :D |
Aug-26-08 | | shutupimthinking: I believe the word is hecticity. |
Aug-27-08 | | Ulhumbrus: 13...e5 offers a pawn not only on c5 but later on b6 as well. An alternative is 13...c4 14 Bc2 and now 14...e5 eg 15 d5 Nb7 heading for d6 |
