Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-13-18  ChessHigherCat: At first I was stymied because I thought 32. Nxh6 only draws at best: 32. Nxh6 gxh6 33. Rxf6 Rg7 34. Qxh6+ Rh7 35. Qg6 Rg7 36. Qg6+, etc.

Same problem with 32. Nxg7 Rxg7 33. Qxh6+ Rh7 34. Qg6 Rg7 35. Qh6+ Rh7

Then it finally dawned on me 32. Nxh6 gxh6 33. Rxf6 Rg7 34. Qxh6+ Rh7 35. Rxe6!! (Rxh6?? Rxh6#) Rxe6 36. Qxe6 and white is 3 pawns up

Dec-13-18  ChessHigherCat: Whoops, forgot to analyze the 33...Nxg7 variant.

<Al's not quiet on the eastern front!>

Dec-13-18  agb2002: Black threatens Rxe3.

White can destroy the black castle with 32.Nxh6 gxh6 (32... Rxe3 33.Nf7+ wins an exchange) 33.Rxf6:

A) 33... Nc5 34.Qxh6+ Rh7 35.Rf8+ Qxf8 36.Qxf8#.

B) 33... Rg7 34.Qxh6+

B.1) 34... Rh7 35.Rxe6 wins decisive material. For example, 35... Rxe6 (35... Rxh6 36.Rxh6#) 36.Qxe6 Rxh4 37.Rxh4 Qxh4 38.Qh3 + - [2P].

B.2) 34... Kg8 35.Rxe6 Rxg4 (35... Rxe6 36.Qxe6+) 36.Re5 wins decisive material.

C) 33... Re7 34.Qxh6+ Rh7 35.Rxe6 transposes to B.1.

Dec-13-18  Walter Glattke: 32.Nxh6 Qf8 33.Nf5 white Advantage.
Dec-13-18  patzer2: Stockfish 9 indicates the 32. Nxh6 game continuation is not a clear cut win because 32...gxh6 33. Rxf6 h5! 34. Rg3 Qc8 35. Qc2 ⩲ (+0.48 @ 34 ply) puts up much more resistance than the game continuation 33...Ng7? 34. Rgf4 +- (+9.97 @ 31 ply).
Dec-13-18  WorstPlayerEver: Not a puzzle.
Dec-13-18  mel gibson: Stockfish 10 shows that there is no forced mate:

32. Nxh6

Dec-13-18  malt: Went for 32.N:h6 gh6 33.Q:h6+ Rh7
34.R:f6! (34.Q:f6 Q:f6 35.R:f6 )

Did not see 33.R:f6

Dec-13-18  cocker: 33... Ng7 was losing move.
Dec-13-18  saturn2: I looked at 32. Nxh6 gxh6 33. Rxf6

33...Re7 34. Qxh6+ Rh7 35. Rxe6 Rxh6 36. Rxh6#

33...Ng7 34. Rgf4 Re8 35. Rf7 Rg8 36. Qxh6#

Dionysius1: Very nice - I like the concentration on the f-file instead of the more obvious 33. or 34.♕xh6 which goes nowhere very much.
Dec-13-18  5hrsolver: I went with.
32. Nxh6 gxh6 33. Qxh6+ Rh7 34. Rxf6 Rxh6 35. Rxh6# but I guess there are defenses here.

33.Rxf6 as played in the game is better attacking the knight right away. Good play by white.

Dec-13-18  thegoodanarchist: Got the first two moves.

Then I couldn't stand the suspense any longer, and I checked the game score.

I will take partial credit

Dec-13-18  saturn2: I think the refutation of the line given by <malt 33.Q:h6+ Rh7 34.R:f6> is

34...Rh5

Dec-13-18  landshark: 32.Nxh6 good enough for me - recapturing the N leads to disaster: ....gxh6, 33.Rxf6 and now:

33.... N moves, 34.Qxh6+ mates
33... Re7, 34.Qxh6+,Rh7 35.RxN! because ...RxQ 35.RxR# 33...Qe7 34.Qxh6+,Qh7 35.Rf8+ mates.

Knowing the N is immune and B has no counterplay means the N may soon set up shop on f7 with further dividends soon to follow -
