Two gorgeous <CENTRALIZED> bishops and a <CENTRALIZED> knight.

A tremendous win for Caruana.

Apr-06-09  Shams: I can't remember the last time I saw Rublevsky get mauled like this.

With White(!).

Apr-06-09  WickedPawn: When Rublevsky got over the 2700 ELO milestone last year, he stopped playing as if he didn't want to jeopardize his super-rating at least for a while. This crushing loss shows that such strategy quickly fires back at you.
Apr-06-09  WickedPawn: Well, Caruana is on fire in this tournament. He has played two games so far, with black, two wins and a beautiful positional exchange sacrifice in the first game to top it off.
Apr-06-09  whiteshark: A phantastic game. I like Caruna's advance of the f-pawn. I wonder if <18.Ne4> is already the decisive mistake? Usually a centralised Knight shouldn't be a bad move.
Apr-06-09  Mulyahnto: 21...Rxe5 is a nice tactical shot that wins two minor pieces for the rook.
Apr-06-09  Jim Bartle: Amusing that white's knights seem to dominate the center on e4 and e5 starting at move 18, then in an instant they've gone away and the black bishops are threatening on d5 and d6.

I don't think that's a valid claim, unless you have real strong bases for that.

At this level, around 2700 club, I don't think any mature player, specially someone like Rublevsky, would NOT play just simply to maintain his rating around 2700...

It's almost something i would say IMPOSSIBLE!!!

On the other hand congratulation to Caruana for his 3 wins against strong opposition!!!

a big WOW to him and his play!!!

Apr-07-09  ChessEscudero: Looks like Fabulous Fabiano is on course to take a seat on elite's table this year.
Mar-31-11  numbersguy70: Truly insightful how the elite players value pieces. 30...Ra8 wins the white queen for a rook and bishop...usually a good deal for the player capturing the queen.

Obviously Caruana considered this and passed, opting to keep his strong bishop and rook on the board and forcing the queen to a bad square. Splendid.
