Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-15-09  luzhin: 28.Qh8+ is a beautiful knock-out punch: if 28...Rxh8 then 29.Rxf7+ Kg8 30.Rf8+ Kg7 31.R1f7+ Kh6 32.Rxh8 checkmate.
Aug-17-09  kellmano: I was there for this live, watching in the bar area. On 28. Qh8+ appearing on the board GM Short, watching, was quite ecstatic. 'Wow,' he shouted 'I didn't see that coming, and neither did Sokolov!'.

I'm sure he'd be happy to confirm that anecdote :-)

Aug-17-09  MaxxLange: the tactics in the whole game are interesting, then this sweet shot

great game from Howell

Apr-28-10  mckmac: 21...Rxh2?! < Objectively, 21...Qb6 looks like the best practical chance, but after 22.Qxb6 axb6 23.Rd2 Rxa2 24.Kc2 the ending is pretty grim for Black as well. Sokolov prefers to seek his chances in the middlegame. (IM Pein)>
