Honza Cervenka: Great game by Lazna!
Oct-05-10  Gypsy: <18.Nxb5...> The key to the material trades that are initialized by this move is that when all is said and done, <18...Be4 19.Qc4 Bd3 20.Nxa3 Bxc4 21.Nxc4...>

White position is completely consolidated, without any gaping weaknesses. Therefore, Black queen is rather powerless; and the lighter, but more numerous, forces of White prevail.

tamar: 31...Bf8 looks wrong, just losing a tempo. White has an initiative but if Black can prevent d5, he has chances to hold.

after 31...Ba3 32 Rc2 Nd5 (Black gets this move in) 33 Bd2 Kh7 34 Nc6 Nxc6 35 bxc6 Qe8 36 Rb3 Be7 37 Rb7

Although it looks dire here, Black can activate his Queen by giving up the exchange

37...Rxa6 38 Bxa6 Qh5 +.69/21 with the Queen picking off the central pawns after Qd1

Not great for Black, but much better than the game.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Yes, "a Knight on the rim is dim," but after 28.Na6, we have two Knights on the rim looking as bright as a supernova. So typical of the Catalan, an opening that brought me lots of victories, and most of the time had no idea why.

In fact, didn't understand either player's moves at one point or another. Black's 10th-12th moves, for example. Why did he want to subject himself to such a cramped position?

Feb-18-25  goodevans: I imagine Black had a pretty miserable time from the moment he ‘won’ White’s Q. I bet he was glad when it was all over.

Impressive stuff from the Viktor.

offramp: Two knights require two trims from one rim.

Feb-19-25  paavoh: @An Englishman: <Black's 10th-12th moves, for example. Why did he want to subject himself to such a cramped position?> Yes, indeed. I was expecting to see the usual - Be4 to pop up.
