Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-13-10  acme: Why not 15. ...Bxf2+?
Nov-13-10  luzhin: For better or worse, Black finally had to connect his rooks with 22...0-0. After 23.h5 Be4 24.h6 g6 25.Qg5 Kh7 26.Qf6 Rg8 27.Qxf7+ Rxf7 28.Rxf7+ Kxh6 he's still alive and kicking (unlike the game continuation).
Nov-13-10  goodevans: <acme> The short answer is that the pawn would cost black a tempo. With white's potent threats it just isn't worth it.

HeMateMe: Fun to watch Shirov win games like this. All about gaining tempi.
Nov-13-10  messachess: Very nice demonstration of playing technique, keeping black constantly off balance.
Nov-13-10  4tmac: Even 22...O-O was probably too late but maybe 21...O-O was defensable even though I wouldn't want to have to try this against a rampaging Shirov! ;) I like the advance against the C-K & Shirov sure showed how it's done in this game. :)
Nov-13-10  4tmac: Actually, this game was lost at the end. The attack was irresistable. 11...Nxc3 was probably not best.
Nov-14-10  4tmac: Kamsky played 11...NxB & won a fantastic game in Tal Memorial 2008. The Caro Kann has a reputation as being comnservative but it obviously doesn't have to be.
