Aug-15-11  checkmateyourmove: The leaders from the last two tourneys have had no answer for moro. magnus was happy to draw him twice last tourney and svidler got mowed down after clinching the win of course. The chess world needed moro back in form with topa and chucky losing steam lately.
Aug-15-11  brulla: Who's chucky?
Aug-15-11  Capcom: I assume he is referring to the mercurial Manthan Chokshi
Aug-15-11  companys: I was planning to watch this game online and when I turned it on it was already over. A complete wipeout. A pity Moro lost to Nepo..
Aug-15-11  tacite: <brulla : Who's chucky?> Vassily Ivanchuk.
Aug-15-11  messachess: <...no answer for moro.> Yes, Moro fans are happy lately.
Aug-15-11  DiscoJew: I wonder if 16.Nc7 with the idea of 19.Nxb5!! sacrificing the Knight to commence attacking Blacks Queenside with pawns and those 2 glorious Bishops!?

Very interesting play Mr.Morozevich.

Aug-15-11  sevenseaman: When nothing is at stake, any assessment of a player's competitive quality is stilted. Patently result oriented human moods like, 'doesn't matter, couldn't care less, relax you've already done it' are very tough to shut out. The sharp edge departs.
Aug-15-11  DrMAL: Interesting Grunfeld game. Moro played the sharper 8.e5 line with 10.Be2 (instead of usual 10.Be3) a novelty? 13...Nxc5 (14.Qe3 b4) to recapture was an equalizing alternative to 13...Ne5 that made it sharper still. Same for 17...Bxf3!? instead of simply 17...Ra7 sharpening further. Now white has a bishop pair (in addition to extra pawn).

Black's plan (to recapture?) starting with 20.Ra6?! was quite dubious. It did not gain back the pawn but instead freed white's position for a larger advantage. With 25...Nc7 black's knight is relegated to blocking the extra passed pawn. One final sharpening (26...Rf4?! instead of simply 26...Bxe3) and black axed himself. Nice game for Moro who stayed solid.

Aug-16-11  redcircle: <checkmateyourmove:with topa and chucky losing steam lately> I would agree for Topalov but Ivanchuk is in great shape i think. He's just unstable.Sometimes he can even compare with Anand,Carlsen and Kramnik but it's other tournaments that he is beaten by 2500's players

Not realy, I think the lowest rated player was Nisipeanu = 2670. But Ivanchuk won a beautiful strategic game against Nakamura, in the same tournament - King's tournament 2011 Bazna - Madias
Aug-21-11  Toboli: Ivanchuk at his best is not just comparable with other players. He is just simply the best!
Aug-28-11  polarmis: Here's Morozevich's commentary on this game:

Aug-28-11  DrMAL: <polarmis> Thanx for the info. I guess he did not consider 26...Bxe3 to be better than what was played (I think it was) but otherwise it agrees completely with to what I wrote using Houdini to check my conclusions with, cheers.
