By the end, oh the magic of chess, he could have won with a spectacular move, but after being on the defensive, he was happy with the draw.

Moral of the story: be always alert! Sometimes saving an inferior position may mean not just drawing, but even winning!

  Fusilli: 33...Qc4 blows the advantage. 33...Qd3 seems to simplify into a likely winning endgame for black.

Luckily for me, David did not see his winning shot a few moves later, so maybe the draw was the fair result.

If memory serves, I think we were both short on time at that point.
