Dec-23-13  Cheapo by the Dozen: The combination of Black's 6th and 7th moves makes no sense. At least one of the moves was a time-wasting error.
Dec-23-13  mel gibson: This is almost like the famous fools mate.
I didn't know this one.

  FSR: 14.Rxf6 and crunch.

Penguincw: I was started to wonder why this puzzle was so easy, but then remember it was Monday. :)
Dec-23-13  agb2002: White has two pawns for a bishop.

Black threatens 14... Qxh5.

White can force mate with 14.Rxf6:

A) 14... Qxh5 15.Rf8#.

B) 14... Qxf6 15.Qe8+ Qf8 16.Qxf8#.

C) 14... Be6 15.Qg5+ Qg6 16.Rf8#.

D) 14... Qe7 15.Qg5+ Qg7 16.Qxg7#.

  FSR: <Cheapo by the Dozen> Both Black's 6th and 7th moves were weak. White's 6.Ng5?! is trappy but bad. The refutation is 6...f5! (stranding the knight) 7.e4 h6! (not 7...Be7?, Eliascheff vs NN, 1948) 8.e5 Be7! 9.Nh3 gxh3 10.Qh5+ Kf8 11.Bc4 Rh7! 12.Qg6 Bb4+! and White has no good response. See Opening Explorer.
Dec-23-13  Cybe: Black’s fatal error is of course 7… Be7, but if, for example, 6… f5 (not 6… g3 – it’s simply not needed), black has a pawn down, hard position, however the game still begins.
Dec-23-13  lost in space: I love Mondays!

14. Rxf6 and it is over.

14...Qxh5 15. Rf8#

14...Qxf6 15. Qe8+ and mate next move

Dec-23-13  Whillz: Very very easy, one of my perks every Monday....I hate Sundays,*oooh where did that come from*
Dec-23-13  morfishine: Mull over this Roger

<14.Rxf6>

*****

Dec-23-13  Nick46: <morfishine:> You got in a smidgin too quickly for me; I was going to say: "I didn't have to Mull over this too long - Roger, over and out."
Dec-23-13  zb2cr: 14. Rxf6! Now, with his Queen under attack and a mate threat by Rf8# as a kind of x-ray attack, Black is in an impossible pickle. I'm not surprised by the resignation.
Dec-23-13  morfishine: <Nick46> You ought to submit 'Roger, over and out' as a pun for this game

Very good!

Dec-23-13  kevin86: Following Rxf6!!,Black's queen is crossfired-If she takes the rook, the queen will mate or if she takes the queen, the rook mates.

Shouldn't happen to a dog!

Dec-23-13  BOSTER: It is not easy to meet such shy Bird because of its rarity among famous CG guests.
Dec-23-13  Amadori: Is <chrisowen> a kibitzing chessbot? You would think those thing would have improved by now.

Happy Holidays CGers!?

sleepyirv: What is the point of playing a gambit if you are the one who ends up underdeveloped?
Dec-23-13  whiteshark: <14.Rxf6!>, and that's it.
Dec-23-13  Ed Frank: Simple tactic to find, but a cool game.
Dec-23-13  Abdel Irada: To his credit, I don't think <chrisowen> has missed a solution yet (although I'd be hard put to it to prove if he did).

So, as a chessbot he appears quite good, but as a random-word generator he may be using old software.

Dec-23-13  JG27Pyth: <Nick46>You got in a smidgin too quickly for me; I was going to say: "I didn't have to Mull over this too long - Roger, over and out."

To mull it over I suppose he'd need a laun muller.

Dec-24-13  dunamisvpm: I could surmise that muller-roger at that time had personal problem he brought with him during the match. Imagine, he did not recognize the coming sacrifice by moved 8th! Merry Christmas!
Jan-19-18  morfishine: 1963 was a very bad year for Oswald
