Jul-29-13  agb2002: White is a bishop down.

Black threatens 24... Rxd1#.

A rook and a pawn block the movements of the black king to the g-file. This suggests 24.Rxh7+ Kxh7 25.Qh5#.

Jul-29-13  TheBishopSweden: Mondays don't require much thinking:) I found
24.Rxh7+ Kxh7 25.Qh5# after a few seconds.

  FSR: 24.Rxh7+ looks promising.
Jul-29-13  Once: Let's do the timewarp again...

The black king and rook take a step to the left (h8 and g8 respectively)

The white rook takes a jump to the right (h3)

The black rook puts its hands on its hips (Rxd3)

The white queen brings her knees in tight (25. Qh5#)

I suppose that makes 24. Rxh7+ a pelvic thru-u-ust?

My, but what interesting underwear you have, Brad and Janet. Shall we pop down to the lab and see what's on the slab?

Jul-29-13  TheaN: 29 July 2013

<24.?>

Taking shelter does have its limits. Completely safeguarding the king in this case for black, makes defending that same kingside much harder. White mates with:

<24.Rxh7+ Kxh7 25.Qh5#> and apparantly, even black saw the futileness of this situation and resigned even before move 24 was played.

Jul-29-13  Oxspawn: Love Mondays? Really? The sugar coating on the bitter pill. On Monday the game is easy. But then come Chewsday and WellIneverday followed by Chumpday, Dumbday and Hopelessday. The weak-end. Think I'll resign now.
Jul-29-13  morfishine: Soot gets smoked after <24.Rxh7+> due to 24...Kxh7 25.Qh5#

<Bartimaeus> Meelis Kanep is a male

Jul-29-13  Sethkol: Pretty easy
Jul-29-13  stacase: Only took a few seconds, since Black was threatening mate, the solution had to be a defense against the mate or a check of which there are two choices - at which time in my thinking it fell apart.

Dionysius1: There must be other easy 2 move mates for Mondays that don't involve the castled king and the h file!
Jul-29-13  TheaN: <Oxspawn: ...but then come Chewsday and WellIneverday followed by Chumpday, Dumbday and Hopelessday. The weak-end. Think I'll resign now.>

HAHA this made me laugh out loud, so true.

Jul-29-13  Nick46: Even I got today's with panache, despite being distracted by the funny names.
Jul-29-13  zb2cr: White delivers mate in two: 24. Rxh7+, Kxh7; 25. Qh5#.
Jul-29-13  Abdel Irada: Black's play was awfully naïve. But of course the nemesis of naïvete is experience. ;-)

Jul-29-13  JoergWalter: Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from bad decisions.

(Mark Twain? I'm not sure)

Jul-29-13  YetAnotherAmateur: Rxh7+ Kxh7 Qh5# obviously wins it.

One question though: Was Soot swept in this matchup?

Jul-29-13  gars: Me too, <lost in space>, ME TOOOOO!!
Jul-29-13  kevin86: Rook checks,queen mates.

Monday:everybody is a genius!

LIFE Master AJ: Soot - according to the FIDE website - has a 2100 FIDE rating ... although this game does not show it.
Jul-29-13  YouRang: <FSR: 24.Rxh7+ looks promising.> lol

Failing to solve this puzzle should pretty well dash any hopes of ever becoming a GM.

LIFE Master AJ: Kanep is a GM ... (http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...); that explains a lot.
