Sally Simpson: This was a real heart breaker after playing a good game with possibly an unsound but very interesting looking Queen sac. (you must go for these things if it looks like good fun.)

Black to play.

Thought I'd be Mr Cute and played 30...Rxg2 intending to answer 31.Qxf8+ with 31...Rg1+ and 0-1.

I just simply never saw it coming.

Had to laugh though, I was set up beautifully.

  Sally Simpson: That's him.

Quite an extraordinary player with whom I've had many interesting games since 1975.

A very good and gifted, though sometimes erractic player. Capable of beating an IM in a tournament and losing to a 1200 player in a leaue match. (he has done both.)

He is getting on now - must be 70+ something but still playing and recently won a minor tournament.

A very eccentric and likeable character, Rudolf Austin tales abound throughout Scotland.

  Stonehenge: Thanks.

You should have told him that he could play 32. exf5 e.p. It was worth a try :)
