Mar-11-11  Rubenchik: 17... Be4! Great game.
Mar-11-11  joupajou: 24. Bd1? loses immediately. Better try e.g. 24. Nc2.

Black's bishops are very well positioned, though, so the best white could wish for is a draw.

Now wait, there's Yusupov (whom I keep in very high regard). Poor Van der Wiel...

Fusilli: 16.Ne3 looks more natural to me than 16.Nb4.

In his book Yusupov shows the position after 20.Bb5 with Black to move as a puzzle, after a chapter on development. 20...d5! is a great move that keeps the white king in the center.

Stonehenge: This game score is wrong, see http://chesstempo.com/gamedb/game/1... or this newspaper article: http://resolver.kb.nl/resolve?urn=d...

Fusilli: <Stonehenge> I played through the game on the same link you sent and saw nothing different from the game here.

When you say "the score is wrong" it would help to be more specific. Which move is presumably wrong?

Stonehenge: Sorry, this is the right link: http://chesstempo.com/gamedb/game/1....

That newspaper article (http://resolver.kb.nl/resolve?urn=d...) has the same game score.

The new link has <exactly> the same game as the old link, even if they appear as two different games in that database. And they both are <exactly> the same as the game here in <CG>. I can't play the newspaper article score on my computer, so I didn't check that one.

So, <WHAT> is your problem with this game?

When I asked if you could be <specific>, I meant that you could say something like this:

1) Move 14 is actually Be2 and not the one on the score.

2) The year is wrong. This game was played in 1983.

3) Black didn't win. Black resigned as he delivered checkmate, so the score should be 1-0.

4) White was not Van der Wiel but my cousin Charly.

What is the <specific> problem with this game? What part of the score is wrong?

Also, if you find a real problem, please use the link to <submit a correction slip> at the bottom. Maybe you did already, but I am really curious as to what the problem is, since I see none. Thanks!

Phony Benoni: I am guessing this is the intended GOTD for today, since it is the only decisive game between these two players that fits the description.
Aug-17-18  jith1207: <Phony Benoni>: I think so.

Only two decisive games are there, where Van Der Wiel was white and Yusupov was black. The other one ends too meek for me:

Van der Wiel vs Yusupov, 1985

It could be either of them, but judging by the game and comments, could this be the intended one?
