Sep-14-15  fisayo123: 19...fxe5?! Vovk underestimates, or most likely doesn't realize the power of the pawn sacrifice and of ♗b5! in particular. Now, 20. fxe5 ♘dxe5?! 21. ♗f4 ♕b7 (not 21...♕b6? 22. ♗xe5 ♘xe5 23. ♗e8!) ♘g6 22. ♗xe5 ♘xe5 23. ♖hf1 ♘g6 24. ♗e8!).

20...Ba6 Perhaps 20...Ne7 was slightly better, but getting rid of the light-square bishop is very reasonable in these French positions.

21.♗xc6! ♕xc6 22.♗h6 23.♖c1! (not 23.♖d2? because of 23...g6 24.♘f4 ♘xe5 25.♖e1 ♘c4! and the knight gains a valuable tempo on the rook)

After a series of bold moves and Wei Yi is able to go for the gauntlet. Even the engines initially don't appreciate the brilliance of this sequence. Now 23...♘c5!! is the only defense, which look like an insane computer defense.

24. ♘f4! (no need to rush with the immediate 24.h4?! This is stronger) ♔h8 25. h4 ♘c5 26. h5 ♘e4 27. ♕h4 gxh5 28. ♕xh5 ♕d7

And black's king-side is in tatters. In addition to Vovk's time pressure, it was almost impossible to hold.

Another very impressive attacking display by Wei Yi! His understanding of chess dynamics is incredible.

Sep-14-15  dumbgai: Wei Yi showed up with good preparation after seeing Vovk in action in the first round: Robson vs Y Vovk, 2015
Sep-14-15  whiteshark: <17...f6 TN>in comparison to <17...a4> as in Caruana vs G Meier, 2013
Sep-26-15  ToTheDeath: Great methodical attack by Wei Yi.
