offramp: Ten minutes, no more than that. Then they packed up and went home.

In football there is a pointless period between 90 minutes and penalties. It's called "extra time". It is 2 periods of 15 minutes. Nothing ever happens. The idea is to do nothing until the penalties.

This is like that. It's one of the silly games before blitz.

keypusher: I wonder what they're thinking. Karjakin slightly outrates Duda in classical, but is (not by too much) lower rated in blitz. So you'd think he might be somewhat motivated to play aggressively in this game. Well, obviously not. Does his strategy make sense to others?

It's good that Fedoseev and Carlsen felt like playing today.

Where the Candidates will be, perhaps. When the main prize consists of reaching the final, let's cut the players a bit of slack.

I'm not questioning their manhood, courage, or human decency (well, perhaps by implication). I'm wondering about their judgment, Karjakin's in particular. Why does it make sense for him to basically throw away his classical game with White?

In hindsight, of course it did.

Karjakin easily held the draw in the second classical game, and went on to defeat Duda in the rapid phase.
