Sally Simpson: I'm on Lichess, you can see 4 games at once with no chit-chat from the wafflers and have turned on the evo bar (I only found out recently you can turn it off and on) All games equal including here but I do not like Black, he seems to be in only move territory.

It was like this in Round two when suddenly due to no increment a loads of games were lost. At the moment Vidit is the candidate for T.T. 18 mins for 14 moves v Nepo who has an hour.

Clement Fraud: All the quality ideas are coming from Gukesh: 23... cxb4!!

  Sally Simpson: Hi Clem,

And he possibly saw that idea when playing c5. So much for rules of thumb. The Man Utd v Liverpool and Rangers-Celtic have just popped up on the telly. So it's goodnight from me.

Apr-07-24  whiteshark: The cooling phase has already lasted a few moves. If the pawns on the queenside disappear, they could shake hands.
Apr-07-24  whiteshark: Exchanging rooks and minor pieces instead of queenside pawns is of course also an approach.

Korora: I know I'm just a patzer, but I can sense another cat's game brewing.
Apr-07-24  Atking: Seems equal...

Korora: Well, at least the clocks seemed not to glitch this time.
Apr-07-24  BxChess: My body clock malfunctioned. I missed the first 45 minutes of today's game.

  Korora: <BxChess>
Yesterday, Gukesh's clock gave him the extra half hour a couple of moves prematurely.
Apr-07-24  BxChess: I wasn't watching the Gukesh game. I'm surprised that such glitch's can occur when everything is computerised these days.

Korora: <BxChess> I learned it from Agadmator's analysis of the game.
Apr-07-24  Albanius: What is the rule on triple repetition of position with intervening moves?

Korora: *Big Macintosh voice* Eeyup! Looks like a perpetual in the making.

perfidious: The rule is that the same position must occur--with the same player on move in each instance--for the claim to be made.

Ask <ray keene> about it sometime.

Apr-07-24  vonKrolock: молодец Ян! очень хорошо ...
Apr-07-24  Albanius: I learned that triple repetition of position without triple repetition of move is a draw from a game between Fischer and Petrosian, and used it in the 1972 US open to draw Paul Brandts, my first half point against a master. But that case was without intervening moves.
Apr-07-24  Atking: Is Fabiano waiting for a major mistake or what?
Apr-07-24  Albanius: After 57 Ke3, Gukesh could have tried Qc3+,
hoping for the helpmate 54 Kf4???
But Fabi of course had other options.
Apr-07-24  vonKrolock: Wrong live sorry ... )But here we will have really a sea serpent if Fabi keep trying an improbable win)

This is a serious game; it's not the Immortal Overprotection Game.

perfidious: Looks as though Gukesh should 'tack' on f3 with 73....Qf1.

Korora: And the winner is... the cat!
Apr-07-24  Atking: <Korora: <Is Fabiano waiting for a major mistake or what?> This is a serious game; it's not the Immortal Overprotection Game.> I could agree on general term but obviously here White plays without a serious plan.

Sally Simpson: Football finished, 2-2 and 3-3 and a draw here. I thought Caruana had good chances. Have to go back and look at the sacs that White Shark mention where I was also sniffing about and I bet Caruana was too, he took a long time in that critical position. Could not play Black at all. Not too worried, these guys are good they are not watching three other games and posting all over the place.

I was right about Vidit getting caught in T.T. but that was a bit obvious.
