Apr-17-24  AdolfoAugusto: White is better, Caruana is in for a long day.
Apr-17-24  Atking: I still don't understand where are going these pawns f&g? Let's try 21.Rb4 if 21...g4? 22.Nh4, if 21...f4?! 22.exf gxf 23.Nh4
Apr-17-24  whiteshark: keep the tension

Tabanus: <whitestark> Stockfish 8. It wants to play Kh2 and Rh1, poor old thing :)

benveniste: My copy of Stockfish is dithering between ♘e5, ♕c3, and ♔h2.
Apr-17-24  whiteshark: <Tab> my oldest 'active' machine is a single core Toga II 1.2.1a - Ferrari configuration. I trust its positional assessment, but it's soooo slow in comparison.

Apr-17-24  whiteshark: Gukesh uncorked <21.Qc3> after 37 minutes in the tank.

Korora: Looking at how much time Gukesh is burning, I guess he has blunders in his near future.
Apr-17-24  cormier: Gukesh lkes the a file, we'll see .....

stevemcd87: At move 28, Gukesh has about 1 minute per move to make it to time control. Can he make it without any mistakes?

perfidious: Objectively this may not be bad for Gukesh, but Black's position appears easier to play.

Tabanus: Gukesh voluntarily gave himself two double-pawns.

Korora: <perfidious> Black also has almost four times as much time left on the clock.

Korora: And the cat wins again!
Apr-17-24  whiteshark: Masterful de-escalation to a draw.
Apr-17-24  Atking: With their Queen on b2 instead b4 White would have advantageously keep their pawn on e5.
Apr-17-24  Atking: "Correct" or not I'm very impressed by Gukesh's courageous decision to try 27.fxg. All pawns are then disconnected but still!

Knightf7mate: Naka played a great game. I felt he was pressured during the opening but he managed to get his pieces all developed and coordinated. During this time, pragga’s knights had lots of threats. I think praggnanandhaa might have been able to win a pawn. But the moment passed and Naka gradually grew stronger and stronger. Pragga got his knight trapped and after that it was a matter of technique.

Personally, I hope Naka wins the candidates. I was disappointed with his finish two years ago and alarmed by his 2 losses already this year. Now that he’s gained some ground perhaps he will wind up on top.

Apr-18-24  Ifanivan: <Knightf7mate> i thnik you're post in wrong game
Nov-18-24  JohnSimmons: Apparantly Gukesh missed a chance with 30Qb2 instead of 30Qb4 then in variation of game e5 is defended. Whilst 30...Qxe5 31Qxb7 Qa1ch 32Kh2 Qxa5 33Bxf5 BxB 34Qxc6 is quite favourable for white too.
