DIETER STEINWENDER
(born 1955) Germany

[what is this?]
Dieter Steinwender is a German computer scientist, computer chess expert, writer, journalist, salesperson, chess player and programmer.

During his undergraduate at the University of Hamburg he collaborated with his fellows Alexander Reinefeld, Dirk Hauschildt and Manfred Allers in developing the chess programs Murks for an Interdata M85 (1980) and later (1981-83) MicroMurks for the Motorola 68000 µ-Processor. With Chrilly Donninger (aka Chrilly chessforum), Dieter wrote Minimax, a didactical open source program in BASIC.(1)

Dieter is largely involved in computer chess, and human-vs-computer competitions such as the annual AEGON Human-Machine Championship. He plays an anti-computer style with a certain degree of success. In 1996 he defeated the program Shredder (Computer) in only 17 moves.(2)
