... World Championship 27 finished on 2014-05-09 with GM Aleksandr Dronov of Russia winning the World Title for the 2nd time. Previously he won World Championship 22.

LIFE Master AJ: ICCF is boring and not even honest, anymore ... it's all "engine-vs-engine" stuff, anyway.

Real correspondence died out a number of years ago.

perfidious: <Real correspondence died out a number of years ago.>

This became inevitable with the advent of programs such as Fritz, and was most unfortunate.

Nov-28-18  whiteshark: It looks like we forgot the 29th World Corr. Championship, which he also won.

Thus, he is the only person to win the <World Correspondence Chess Championship <three times>>!!

Respect and congratulations for this unique achievement!

Very true, methinks! I've played corres chess since 2000...just when almost everyone seemed to be buying the latest chess computers! So...I noticed that very low rated players were managing draws versus 2500+ players in certain competitions [gasp!]?!;Susan Polgar stated once that no assistance should be used during a game -well, easier said than done because even GMs when faced with a tricky situation will often revert to a computer generated move in preference to any other! [Easy to check this also!]. Better to analyze first, play the move and THEN CHECK IT AGAINST A COMPUTER ANALYSIS, BUT HEY...that's really not easy to do as a human!? One needs nerves of steel! Even fast timed tournaments can be affected by having a second computer running with an analysis of the game! Seems like computer chess programs may be a blessing as well as a curse!?

FSR: Unfortunately Dronov died during the current (33rd) ICCF World Championship Final. He had drawn six games. His death resulted in wins for his remaining ten opponents. One of them will be the new Champion. Or quite possibly all ten of them will tie, since all of the other games so far have been drawn. https://www.iccf.com/event?id=100104 The players will have identical tiebreaks, so I guess ICCF will have to declare them co-champions.
