  MissScarlett: Birmingham Post, February 26th 1941, p6:

<By the death of Mr. Ferdinand Othmar Egger on February 20, the Birmingham Chess Club lost its oldest and, in his time, one of its strongest players. Mr. Egger was ninety years of age. He was connected with the club for sixty years or more, and kept up his visits to the room at the Midland Institute till well into the eighties. He played in the first three or four when the Birmingham C.C. team of twenty players was at its strongest.

Mr. Egger lived in Edgbaston most of his life, but removed to Sutton Coldfield in his later years. His chess was of the lively order and he played some brilliant games. He was a genial and popular member of the Birmingham club and he held the presidential chair several times. He occasionally played in the Warwickshire team.

Mr. Egger was a Swiss by birth. He settled in Birmingham at an early age. He was of magnificent physique and was at one time a member of the Birmingham Athletic Club, and was well known as a wrestler.>
