Nov-22-24 | | Alan McGowan: Aside from the games given here, CG also has Monoszon vs S Khvilevitsky, 1921. I suggest this is the same person. There is also a known game Levenfish-Monoszon, St Petersburg 1912. During his time in France, it was known that Monosson was a Doctor of Law (L'Intransigeant, Paris, 14 February 1940, p2), though he seems not to have used his professional title. In 1925, the Deutsches Wochenschach reported on an Amateur tournament that began at the Jaegerklause Restaurant, which included Dr Monusson (he retired after four consecutive losses). This publication consistently used this spelling of his name. However, the Brandenburgische Schachzeitung 1925 (pp 79 and 240) showed him as Dr Monosson. The latter reference mentioned that he had been a member of the Berliner Schachgesellschaft, but had apparently failed to fulfill his obligations (didn't pay his membership, or resigned?). And the introduction in the Berlin 1926 tournament book refers to 'Dr Monesson', who was one of the founders of the Freie Schachvereinigung in 1924. Further, the Deutsche Schachzeitung 1931, p143, says: Monosson (ein in Nizza wohnender Russe von ansehnlicher Spielstärke, der auch in Berliner Schachkreisen wohlbekannt ist) - well known in Berlin chess circles. I will submit the 1912 game with Levenfish, as well as two games from the 1925 Berlin event; even though he withdrew from the latter event, they are worth showing for the record. |
