STING
(born Oct-02-1951, 73 years old) United Kingdom

[what is this?]
"Sting" is the stage name of Gordon Matthew Sumner, CBE, who was born in Newcastle, England, on October 2, 1951. He is the former bassist and lead singer of the band The Police. His interest in the game of chess inspired him in 2000 to invite Garry Kasparov to play simultaneously against him and his band in New York City, on ABC's television show "Good Morning America." Kasparov won all four games easily. Some of the money raised was donated to the Rainforest Foundation.

  tpstar: Happy Birthday!

Potentially the most famous chess player in the world.

Just don't allow that P. Diddy nonsense ever again, ya clot. ;>D

Oct-30-05  CowardlyKnight: Is there a picture showing Sting and Kasparov at the board at the same time?
Jul-06-06  beatles fan: Polices' music is great.
I bet more people (North America) know about Sting than Kasparov
Jan-15-07  jedrus07: But i think that generaly Kasparov is more famous than Sting :)
Aug-29-07  biglo: There's a photo of the simul game at http://www.earthcam.com/news/media/...
Jul-24-08  HannibalSchlecter: Fair is fair. If Sting was willing to embarrass himself at chess in front of everyone, Kasparov should have agreed to do karaoke.
Jul-24-08  Jim Bartle: What songs could Kasparov sing? "The Greatest Love of All"? "My Way"? "The World's Greatest"?
Jul-25-08  HannibalSchlecter: Those are good. Perhaps "I'm Too Sexy" should be included. I wouldn't mind seeing him do "I Like Big Butts" either.
Oct-02-08  just a kid: Happy birthday Sting!
Feb-07-09  Dredge Rivers: Your name is Sting, is it? Have you ever stung anybody, Mr. STING ?!
Oct-02-09  jurado96: he sings better than his chess game
happy birthday
May-03-10  renumeratedfrog: 45 moves against Kasparov can be considered as a psychological win for an amateur.

HeMateMe: It was ..."Murder by ratings/Easy to see/It's as easy as your ABCs"
Mar-04-12  AlanPardew: <Kasparov won all four games easily.>

Apparently, it was five.

<A very cool Kasparov, likely not quaking in his boots, played Sting, guitarist Dominic Miller, keyboardist Jason Rebello, trumpet player Chris Botti, and vocalist Russ Irwin simultaneously and defeated them all within 50 minutes. Sting, a proclaimed chess aficionado and an old friend of Kasparov, lasted the longest, finally losing to the master in 45 moves. The fastest to fall was Miller, whom Kasparov squashed in a mere nine moves.>

Dec-01-13  GumboGambit: According to Rybka, he should have split up from The Police earlier to better advance his career. Being the lead singer and main songwriter means you are the band.
Aug-16-14  ColeTrane: "that book by Nabakov..."
Oct-31-22  Ninas Husband: He had some GREAT matches against Ric Flair. WOO!
