Apr-03-06  percyblakeney: Well, Korneev was probably not such a good bet after all, he lost with white against Burmakin in the fifth round... The latter and Campora lead with 5/5, Illescas and Caruana have 4.5 and lots of players have 4 (for example Cheparinov, Milov, Epishin and Spraggett).

Chessgames Bookie: Great news, we just opened up a betting line on the top board of Dos Hermanas between Daniel Campora and Vladimir Burmakin.

Game starts 11:30am EST tomorrow morning. Betting ends 5 minutes before gametime.

Dos Hermanas: Rd 6: Campora-Burmakin

Sneaky: There's a major "overlay" on the draw bet with Campora-Burmakin. 6:1 for Campora and 7:1 for Burmakin? Are you kidding me? I put a little money on each of them. I'm "laying the draw." If anybody wins the game, I'm laughing all the way to the bank.
Apr-04-06  blingice: <Sneaky> Yes, but if you lose you will be sobbing as you slouch towards the welfare office.

<CB> Could a feature potentially be added so we can see what others are betting on?

lostemperor: Well for the Women World Championship I didn't bet on the favourites also. My biggest bet was on Xu Yuhua followed by Galiamova(!) The only difference with <Snoochies> is that she dared to make a far bigger bet!
Apr-04-06  refutor: i won a pile on amber as well...i picked morozevich to win the blindfold and anand to win the rapid. that almost made up for all the cash leko cost me with his "performance" at linares ;)
Apr-04-06  percyblakeney: I suppose that Nisipeanu will be withdrawn from the European Championship because of the Topalov match, and then the odds on Ivanchuk will get even lower, but maybe I'll bet on him anyway...

cu8sfan: <i picked ... anand to win the rapid.> I did so too. It was surprising how good the odds were on that bet.
Apr-04-06  percyblakeney: I had a huge bet on Nakamura against Baginskaite, 300 at more than double money. I thought that was incredible odds, but...

cu8sfan: <I had a huge bet on Nakamura against Baginskaite> Lol! That's where I made all of my money. Thanks, <percyblakeney> (-:
Apr-04-06  percyblakeney: I just wasted 200 on Ivanchuk and hope for lots of bets on Lutz in the last minute...

cu8sfan: I never bet on Ivanchuk. In my opinion he's too inconsistent to predict.
Apr-04-06  percyblakeney: It probably doesn't even help if he for once plays according to his rating, there's always someone having the tournament of his life with a 2800 performance... But I found no one else to bet on, even if Jobava had a good odds (65).
Apr-04-06  MaCa: I'm pretty suprised that the handle for European Individual Championship was not much more than 6000 chessbucks. It's less than the handle for Dos Hermanas, actually. I quess that Topalov vs. Nisipeanu is getting all the notice.

Anyway, I put my main bet for M. Gurevich. Admitted, he is kind of a big underdog, but he did very well in Turkish championships, which only ended few weeks ago. He had very nice odds, too, so it didin't cost too much.

I put smaller sidebets for Moiseyenko, who has been doing very well lately, and for Naiditsch, whose odds were not that goos. I think Naiditsch might have been pretty good bet.

Finally, I decided to try a small bet on 'all others'. These Championships -tournaments often give good changes for all kinds of underdogs, young players etc...

Apr-04-06  iron maiden: On his recent form Kiril Georgiev seemed like a decent prospect at nearly 40:1.
Apr-04-06  percyblakeney: Concerning Campora-Burmakin, Campora almost always plays e4. Burmakin answers c6, with which he has good success. 8 of his last 10 Caro-Kann have been wins, the two other games were draws (one against Mamedyarov).
Apr-04-06  MaCa: Question:
Will PAL/CSS Freestyle Chess Tournament finals be listed as an event? It sure would be exciting!

Apr-04-06  Ezzy: <iron maiden: On his recent form Kiril Georgiev seemed like a decent prospect at nearly 40:1.> Yes, excellent odds for a man in form. +11 elo points for Aeroflot and +21 Elo points for winning the Gibralter masters. I have had a small flutter on him at 40/1.

Best odds for a player in top form is Jobava at 64/1. He has just won Aeroflot gaining 19 points and gained 12 points at Corus B. A flutter on him was a must.

Quseniov is in form and at 736/1 was worth a couple of bucks.

Federov is another outsider who is in form and worth a couple bucks at 226/1

Moiseyenko looks hot. Joint 4th in this last year, and recent winner of Cappelle Grande.

Gashimov is one to watch at 43/1 after a great Cappelle Grande.

You know what they say 'Laughing turns to crying.' The game was drawn. Now you can go crying all the way to the loanshark. :-)

Apr-04-06  nsteinme: Chessgames: Any way there could be a feature where we're allowed to see the bets of other players, at least after the bets have already been paid out? I'm curious as to how "Guesswho" got 540 chessbucks already, and I think it'd be cool to see the big bet that paid off for him.

Chessgames Bookie: Our first bet paid off, those who bet on the draw in the Campora-Burmakin game were rewarded with winning tickets. To the rest of you, better luck next time.

About revealing bets: This was considered very carefully during beta-testing and we concluded that what you bet on must be confidential. If you can deduce what bets somebody must have made, fine, but we'll never volunteer the information. If people want to declare it publically they are welcome to do so right here or on their private chessforums.

The reason for this has to do with the Championship format. Suppose in the final leg two bettors are in the lead with 8,000 and 10,000 chessbucks respectively. The player with 10,000 chessbucks may guarantee his victory by exactly mimicking whatever bets the 2nd-place competitor makes. Also, some people have specific strategies that prove to be profitable, and they don't want the rest of the world to study what it is that they are doing.

Real sportsbooks keep these matters confidential and so should we. Keep the ideas coming, though.

Apr-04-06  percyblakeney: <I'm curious as to how "Guesswho" got 540 chessbucks already>

My bet is that it was by betting everything on draw in Campora-Burmakin. Now that's what I should have done instead of approximately the opposite...

Apr-04-06  Ezzy: Campora-Burmakin odds to draw was 1.5/1. Place 360 chessbucks on these odds and you get 360 x 1.5 = 540 chessbucks. So obviously <Guesswho> placed 360 chessbucks on the draw.
