  Tabanus: <Dionyseus> Cool :)

Umm, but what do we do if 29...a6 30.Bh3? What difference does it make?

  chancho: 29...a6 for the poll.

Tabanus: Hey, hey, guys, wait: 29...a6 30.Bh3 and now what?

Unless someone convinces me of 29...a6 30.Bh3 30...! I'm voting for the Teft endgame 29...Qe6

Apr-22-07  Judah: 29...Qd2
Apr-22-07  blegaspi: <Judah: 29...Qd2>

You mean 29...Qd7, right?

Apr-22-07  Hugin: 29 - Qe6 for the poll blocks bishops and prevents 30 Bh3 stand until i or someone elses find something better.
Apr-22-07  pawndookie: What about 29...Kh8?
Apr-22-07  Hugin: Sorry 29 - Kh8 for the poll forgot my own
analysis.
Apr-22-07  Judah: <blegaspi: <Judah: 29...Qd2> You mean 29...Qd7, right?>

Oops, yeah, that's what I meant. Threatening the unguarded a-pawn and the advance of the d-pawn, and keeping an eye on e6; also preventing for now Bh3. Thanks for pointing out the mistake; have corrected my vote.

Apr-22-07  Judah: *the eventual advance of the d-pawn, I should say

chancho: After we play 29...a6 if Shulman then plays 30.Bh3, isn't 30...Qf3 unpleasant for him?
Apr-22-07  Hugin: Here is the top 29 - Kh8 line so fare : This seems to be the strongest line done by Rybka 2.3.1 mp and Zap!Chess Zanziba in a standard game :120/40+60/20+30 Ended in a draw, but i am confident we can find improvements after this.

27 - Qf7 28 exd5 exd5 29 a4 Kh8* 30 f3 Qe6 31 Qf2 d4 32 Qc2 d3 33 Rxd3 Bxd3 34 Qxd3

Analysis by Rybka 2.3.1 mp 32-bit :

1. ³ (-0.54): 34...h6 35.h4 b5 36.a5
2. ³ (-0.51): 34...a5 35.Ba3 axb4

We should focus a lot on this position to see if we can find a win..

Apr-22-07  Pawnsgambit: a6 for me

kwgurge: Doesn't 29...Qd7 drop the bishop to 30.Qxc4?
Apr-22-07  Hugin: chancho: After we play 29...a6 if Shulman then plays 30.Bh3, isn't 30...Qf3 unpleasant for him?<<<< I have no idea why 29 - a6 should been played now, it looks like a comp move not knowing what to do.

  Tabanus: Ok,

29.a4 a6 30.Bh3 b5 31.axb5 axb5 32.e6 Qh5 33.Bg2 Re8 34.Re1 d4

scores better than

29.Bh3 b5 30.e6 Qh5 31.Bg2 Re8

because the a-pawn does not fall (with check) after 35.Qe4 Rxe6! 36.Qa8+ Kf7

Is that why??

Apr-22-07  thezimboman: I like a5! a trade with the a pawn w/ the knight would definitely smash GMYS

my opinion... a novice.. but damn im good

kwgurge: <Hugin> GMs of Shulman's caliber don't make comp moves not knowing what to do.

  Tabanus: 29.Bh3 b5 30.e6 Qh5 31.Bg2 Re8 32.Re1 d4 33.Qe4 Rxe6 34.Qa8+ Kf7 and he could have taken the a-pawn with check.

Is this his second mistake? I have voted 29...a6

Apr-22-07  Judah: <kwgurge: Doesn't 29...Qd7 drop the bishop to 30.Qxc4?> Good point. OK, I take it back, and I'll shut up now.
Apr-22-07  Hugin: 29 - Kh8 avoids the tef endgame starting with 29 - Qe6 which we analysed to a draw ...........
Apr-22-07  Hugin: kwgurge: <Hugin> GMs of Shulman's caliber don't make comp moves not knowing what to do.<<<<<<< Sorry i was more worried about 29 - a6 which is a typical comp move.
Apr-22-07  Hugin: 29 Kh8 avoids the tef endgame 29 - Qe6 a draw game... later we can do a6 but not now.
Apr-22-07  tidhar: 29...Qe7 looks alright to me
