Good point. I forgot about that.

Failing that, I like to think FIDE would grant Hans a wildcard on the grounds that he's i) wild and ii) a card.

Oct-25-24  Teyss: <Missy> That's your best one since "Perpetual cheque".

Wait. Two good jokes the same year. Something must be wrong.

Something wrong, or something ... <interesting>?

FSR: Awonder Liang had an odd tournament. All five of his decisive games were won by Black! He had three of the wins, and his opponents two.

FSR: So drew all his games, à la Bisguier in the United States Championship (1975). But wait! He beat Yoo in Round 2, but unfortunately his win was annulled after Yoo was expelled. So vs C Yoo, 2024.

  Tabanus: Five games only?

Sally Simpson: Calm down Tabanus, this is my first day as a games editor. I think I've done something wrong.

Is there an undelete what you have deleted by mistake button?

Sally Simpson: I see what I have done.

I was trying delete all those stupid chess960 games because this is not a Database for stupid variants of the game and I've wiped out a load of genuine chess games instead.

(I've also managed, somehow, to place the Tarrasch v Lasker 1908 games in with Fischer v Spassky, Reykjavik 1972! I'm hoping nobody will notice.)

Nov-01-24  stone free or die: <Calm down Tabanus, ...>

Hmm, was <tab> overreacting, or was there some cause for alarm?

<I was trying delete all those stupid chess960 games because this is not a Database for stupid variants of the game and I've wiped out a load of genuine chess games instead.>

We'll let the reader decide.

<... this is my first day as a games editor.>

If I can be a tad facetious, we're off to a cracking start.

* * * * *

If <CG> has the proper rollback tools this should be fixed by lunch. Let's see.

Retireborn: Oh, Geoff. Geoffy Geoff Geoff.

Has you have been playing the Scotch Opening again? (laughs heartily)

I'm sure these games can be easily recovered from somewhere.

I don't even know what chess960 is. It sounds nasty!

Nov-01-24  Granny O Doul: I admit, there were moments when I doubted that C Yoo would win the title.
Nov-02-24  stone free or die: Funny (and accurate, given those 5 games).

  Sally Simpson: Sigh...

I'm never going to get hang of this games editor lark. I'm following the instructions the best I can but who ever wrote them has a degree in gobbledygook.

Apparently I've deleted all of Alekhine's games and sent them to a communication satellite orbiting earth. BBC News at 10 are reporting people are receiving chess moves instead of text messages and...

A police car has just pulled up outside my house.

Nov-02-24  Bobby Fiske: LOL - funny!

MissScarlett: I think what <Tab> is getting at is questioning whether this tid should have an elevated collection status (with clickable link), that might cause confusion with the tournament collection proper.

If I withdraw that status, all the kibitzing here will disappear, which may be no bad thing. An alternative solution would be to amend the collection name, e.g. <United States Championship (void rage)>.

Tabanus: Standard procedure would be to merge the two (with losing the kibbitzes here) and make it into something like Stockholm (1963/64).

Playoffs can be on a separate page but not cancelled games of an event.

Nov-02-24  fabelhaft: <I admit, there were moments when I doubted that C Yoo would win the title>

And with a -2 score!

They are blaming me for this. For 'maintenance' read hasty and expensive repairs. And it will take them longer than 10 minutes.

In the strongly worded FULL CAPS email I received this morning my term as a Games Editor have been terminated.

Can I do Bio's instead?

With <Sally> you never know what to take seriously.

Oh wait - I know, I know! None of it!

When discussing an actual game, serious or semi-serious. Other than that...
