Jul-25-05  percyblakeney: ...and here after today's round. If not for that game against Pelletier Carlsen has had an OK tournament, but a win in one of the last two rounds would make it look better: http://www.europe-echecs.com/articl...

cu8sfan: Where are the women's games on this site? Almira Skripchenko-Lautier had a very nice endgame tactic today to win against Elisabeth Paehtz.
Jul-25-05  percyblakeney: <I am 1.5 for 4 and will win another one today> Well predicted and done, <cu8sfan>!
Jul-25-05  percyblakeney: ...and here are the votes of the Swedish jury:

Carlsen - Bauer 1-0
Gelfand - Volokitin 1-0
Pelletier - Nakamura ½-½

cu8sfan: Thanks, <percyblakeney>, my prediction was indeed correct and I now have 2.5/5 which is more than I ever hoped for. Today: Another win!
Jul-26-05  djmercury: I think Nakamura is ready to resign. Match of the tournament for me so far.
Jul-26-05  e4Newman: 20.Rxe5 was quite exciting. Now I can't get back on the site to see the ending :(
Jul-26-05  mang00neg: I think Nakamura had to decline the exchange sacrifice and just play on in an inferior but materially balanced position. His loss to Bauer was another instance where his penchant to snatch material has cost him dearly.
Jul-26-05  percyblakeney: It's over now, Pelletier-Nakamura 1-0
Jul-26-05  percyblakeney: ...and Gelfand-Volokitin ½-½, Volokitin seems to be winning the tournament.
Jul-26-05  Grunfeld: Carlsen-Bauer seems to be headed for a draw. Carlsen is a pawn up, but as far as I can see, he can't avoid a three-fold repetition without returning the extra pawn.
Jul-26-05  acirce: <Carlsen-Bauer seems to be headed for a draw. Carlsen is a pawn up, but as far as I can see, he can't avoid a three-fold repetition without returning the extra pawn.>

44.Rc1 Be4 45.Kf1 Rxc2 46.Rxc2 Bxc2 looks very good for White. He gets his king active quicker than Black and Black has much weaker pawns.

Jul-26-05  acirce: 44..d5, ..d4, ..c3 seems enough for a draw.
Jul-26-05  Montreal1666: Predictions last round

Bauer - Pelletier 0-1
Nakamura - Gelfand 1/2
Volokitin - Carlsen 1/2

Jul-26-05  Grunfeld: <acirce> thanks for the analysis!
Jul-26-05  DP12: Carlsen can easily draw by giving up his knight for the f pawn.
Jul-26-05  TruthHurts: Predictions for last round:

Bauer - Pelletier 1-0
Nakamura - Gelfand 0-1(obviously)
Volokitin - Carlsen 1/2

cu8sfan: Incredibly, my prediction was right - I won again today. How many times has this happened to you: You're in an endgame that you can barely draw if you're very lucky and your opponent blitzes out moves faster than you can write them down while you take your time and all of a sudden your pawn marches through...
Jul-26-05  810609: <cu8sfan> so now you have 3,5/6? Congratulations, you are better than Vladimir "50 %" Kramnik! :-)
Jul-26-05  Montreal1666: <cu8sfan:> Now you need one more win!
Jul-26-05  percyblakeney: <cu8sfan> Congratulations, you're ahead of some 2000 players, not bad at all!
Jul-26-05  percyblakeney: Will all my predictions be wrong also in the last round? Time will tell:

Bauer - Pelletier 1-0
Nakamura - Gelfand ½-½
Volokitin - Carlsen ½-½

cu8sfan: <Montreal1666> What happens after one more win? (-:
Jul-26-05  Montreal1666: <cu8sfan:> Cubs will win the next world series!
