Aug-21-16 | | SCUBA diver: Where is everybody. |
Aug-21-16 | | Mr. V: Maybe when there's actually some games in here to analyze people will show up. |
Aug-21-16
 | | HeMateMe: Iraq invaded. Everyone ran off. |
Aug-21-16 | | PhilFeeley: It's good to see a couple of Canadians have ventured over here to play. I look forward to good results from both of them. http://adchessfestival.ae/en/player... |
Aug-21-16 | | PhilFeeley: First round pairings are up:

Aug-21-16
 | | HeMateMe: the Canadians seem to be Russian and Indonesian immigrants? Wasn't igor Ivanov a Canadian citizen? |
Aug-21-16 | | PhilFeeley: Yes he was. There are a lot of European and Asian players for Canada, but some of them were actually born there. Now we even have Evgeny Bareev playing for us. Maybe we'll improve our Olympiad result this year (<2 weeks away!) |
Aug-21-16
 | | HeMateMe: very quietly we've built a powerful Olympiad team: Nakamura, Wesley So and Fab Caruana. I think the 3 are in the world's top 15, maybe top ten. Amazing to have such a group and not one is a Russian émigré! Times change. |

Aug-21-16 | | Mr. V: Andreikin should get more wins than his usual drawing style here since he's played recently- he's very easily affected by long times spent out of practice. However even as a fan I'm cautious of betting on him to win it all, as here there are some very streaky players, such as Adhiban. One of them could easily take the first prize if in-form. |
Aug-22-16 | | lost in space: Strange, that on an international site „we“ is considered as US only. Very narcissistic. |
Aug-22-16 | | Mr. V: <lost in space> No I think it's because the poster is American. That's just how Americans identify with their teams. Fans are part of the team, sort of. |
Aug-22-16 | | ajile: No Benoni Defenses, Dutch defenses, or even a QID.

Aug-22-16
 | | HeMateMe: doesn't everyone use "we" when referring to their country, their sports teams, the company they work for? Unless it's Russia. Then you refer to "President Putin's glorious bastion of democracy." |
Aug-22-16
 | | HeMateMe: Tania Sach from India is in this tournament. |
Aug-22-16 | | lost in space: <<HeMateMe:> doesn't everyone use "we" when referring to their country, their sports teams, the company they work for?
Unless it's Russia. Then you refer to "President Putin's glorious bastion of democracy.> Maybe. But on this site their are not only US-Americans. And so your „we“ means that you ignore all the rest of the world even though the US is just a minor part of half of one content. |
Aug-22-16 | | ajile: OK so now I'm getting very slightly excited. 2 Bogo-Indians and a Pirc! |
Aug-22-16 | | WorstPlayerEver: @HMM
Only if that country is ruled by me.
@lost in space
Oh, come on... it's an American site. Deal with it. |
Aug-22-16
 | | HeMateMe: No, it's just grammar. The topic was the USA Olympiad team. If we are Americans, the 'we' is just a reference to Americans who might be reading that particular post, not to the web site on the whole. |
Aug-22-16 | | jith1207: <"President Putin's glorious bastion of democracy."> Those who believe in whatever their government spawns as facts after messing up with the whole world should not anytime be talking about some other democracy. Just Saying, you know, those who live in glass houses.... |
Aug-22-16 | | LlanelliCC: Entertaining ending won by Adhiban - two knights versus two very bad bishops. |
Aug-23-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <ajile: OK so now I'm getting very slightly excited. 2 Bogo-Indians and a Pirc!> A hypermodernist, eh? |

I just get bored with all the QGDs, Sicilians and Ruy Lopezes. |
Aug-23-16 | | Mr. V: Bogo-Indians aren't necessarily exciting games either, but I guess a change is welcome. |
Aug-23-16 | | PhilFeeley: Go Anton! |
