Grandmaster (2003). Azarov came second in the 2003 World Junior Championship. He scored 7.5/11 in the 12th European Individual Championship (2011), placing 16th and thereby qualifying for entry to the World Cup (2011) where he defeated Artyom Timofeev in the first round before losing to Vugar Gashimov in the second round. Subsequently he scored 5.5/7 in the European Club Cup and came =2nd with 7/9 in the Chigorin Memorial Tournament. He placed =2nd (10th on tiebreak) at the 13th European Individual Championship (2012) scoring 8/11 and qualifying him for the World Cup (2013), from which he was eliminated when he lost his first round match to Russian GM Alexey Dreev. =1st (2nd on tiebreak behind Axel Bachmann Schiavo) at the Cappelle-la-Grande (2014).
