Grandmaster (2003). Azarov finished second at the World Junior Championship (2003). He scored 7.5/11 in the European Championship (2011), placing 16th and thereby qualifying for entry to the World Cup (2011) where he defeated Artyom Timofeev in the first round before losing to Vugar Gashimov in the second round. Subsequently he scored 5.5/7 in the European Club Cup and came =2nd with 7/9 in the Chigorin Memorial Tournament. He placed =2nd (10th on tiebreak) at the European Championship (2012) scoring 8/11 and qualifying him for the World Cup (2013), from which he was eliminated when he lost his first round match to Russian GM Aleksey Dreev. =1st (2nd on tiebreak behind Axel Bachmann) at the Cappelle-la-Grande Open (2014).
